14 Days of Fangirling – Days 9 & 10: Second Leads and Workout Tunes

I’m really glad the awesome ladies over at Dramas with a Side of Kimchi decided to do this 14 Days of Fangirling because I’m having a whole lot of fun with this! Today’s fangirling asks which actors seem forever destined to play second leads and which K-Pop tracks top my workout playlist. Are you ready for this? Then let’s go!

Day 9 is all about those poor drama second leads that, for whatever reason, are forever doomed to be second leads and immediately Jang Hee Jin comes to mind. It’s been almost 12 years now, since Jang Hee Jin made her acting debut and she has yet to land the role of the female lead. I’m really beginning to wonder if she’ll ever play anything other than the jealous, oftentimes cruel, lover who never stands a chance. Not that she lacks any conviction in those roles. On the contrary, she does a really great job in them. It’s just been so long since she first took on this role, I wonder if she’s ever going to have a chance to move beyond it and step into a different role. I suppose there’s always the possibility that she really enjoys such roles, which if that’s the case, I’m happy for her. But I have a hard time believing any actor wouldn’t love the chance to broaden their acting horizons. Maybe someday she can take on the role of the plucky best friend, or the adoring little sister, or the cool boss, which would be a nice change of pace. Sadly, I’m not sure I can ever see her stepping beyond the role of a second into the role of the leading lady.

How I really feel about working out.

Moving on to Day 10, we’re asked to list our top 3 K-Pop workout tunes. I have to say, this one’s pretty easy and at the same time, it’s darn near impossible to answer. G-Dragon’s “미치GO,” BTS’ “No More Dream,” and EXO’s “Overdose” all topped my workout playlist at one time, for no other reason that I like the pace they set for my runs. Sadly, running has gone the way of the dodo for me (thank you stupid, messed up back) and I’ve had to switch up my playlist to provide a little more motivation. Now I make a playlist based on whichever group I’m going to be seeing next, more than what sets the pace for my workout. I know it’s silly, but imagining myself standing in front of a beautiful boys during a high-touch has provided an incredible amount of motivation on those days when I just didn’t feel like I could keep going. Or working out at all. Which is often. Because I suck.

Because talking about working out (and the accompanying guilt for not being able to do so) is making me hate myself, I’m going to wrap this up. That means it’s time for you to tell me which drama seconds you feel are doomed to never take a leading role in the comments below.
