A couple of weeks ago, I did a FND on After School: Lucky or Not Season 1 and I figured it was about time for me to do a quick review of the second season so here it is!
Following closely in the footsteps of season 1, After School: Lucky or Not Season 2 follows the further adventures of the Pick-A-Mission Club who now find themselves as exchange students in China. Keeping with tradition, the five members of the Club make it their goal in life to complete as many missions as possible before they have to return home. Once again the members add a girl, Song Joo Hee (Alice), to the Club only this time she’s brought a friend, Han Ji Suk, and an unhealthy desire for revenge with her. Originally joining to bring down certain members of the club, Joo Hee slowly changes her mind about this strange group of boys and comes to find that sometimes the best of friends are found in the most unlikely of places.
As much as I loved the first season of After School: Lucky or Not the second season fell a bit flat for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was still as inappropriately funny and crazy as ever but this second season just didn’t get to me the way the first season did. I loved the unexpected drama that we got at the end of the first season and I was really sad this second season didn’t follow suit. I suppose it did try, what with the rather sad attempt at a love triangle but neither one of the guys in that mess really made my heart flutter and the entire time I knew who she was going choose so there wasn’t really any mystery or suspense there. Still there were some moments of sweetness and the times I laughed more than made up for the lack of warm-fuzzies so I can’t really complain.
To say anything about the plot would be a waste of time because there really isn’t one. The members of 5urprise are still just as adorable and idiotic as ever and they do a fine job of making us laugh but that really about all this drama is good for. There are so many references to other dramas made in this one that any drama addict will find an endless number of ways to crack up. (My personal favorites being a boy named Kim Kim Tan and the Secret Garden foam-on-the-lip scene.) I also enjoyed the trip the Club took to the haunted building but that comes as no surprise when the moving making episode was my favorite in the first season. (What is it with me and the slightly creepy?)
If you’re looking for a drama that’s fun to watch, short enough to marathon in a couple of hours and has absolutely no purpose other than to make you laugh, you can’t go wrong with this one. Just don’t expect to experience all the warm-fuzzies of the first season. Of course I could be completely biased on the whole lack of fuzzies… I’m still upset over the fact that Seo Kang Joon didn’t return in this second season. *sobs*
