FRIDAY NIGHT DRAMA: It’s Okay, That’s Love

This week’s drama to marathon is easily one of the best of 2014 and tied for my personal favorite of the year. It’s witty, it’s funny, it’s poignant, it’s powerful and it has some of the most realistic and lovable characters I’ve ever come across in all my journeys through DramaLand. In short, It’s Okay, That’s Love is an amazing drama and one I think you’re really going to love.

Originally airing on SBS from July – September, 2014, It’s Okay, That’s Love follows the story of Jang Jae Yeol (Jo In Sung), a best-selling novelist/popular radio DJ who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder and Ji Hye Soo (Gong Hyo Jin), a psychiatrist working on the first year of her medical fellowship. As very strong individuals with dynamic and sometimes overpowering personalities, Jae Yeol and Hye Soo clash upon first meeting but life continuously throws them together and eventually those sparks of contention turn to sparks of love. The journey for these two isn’t an easy one as they both suffer from some very deep emotional scars but they come to find help, healing and happiness within each other.

happy running

I wish I could give a better summary of this drama but there’s just so much too it that I’d be sitting here for weeks on end, trying to cram in every single detail and “ain’t nobody got time for that”. You’re just going to have to believe me when I say there’s so much more to this drama than just another sappy love story. Yes, Jae Yeol and Hye Soo fall in love but they’re not the only characters in this story and while their relationship plays a significant role in this story as a whole, there’s so much more going on. Jae Yeol’s story alone is complicated enough, it could be its own drama but even his story is surrounded by the stories of his family, Hye Soo and her family as well as the stories of all their friends. Like I said, to go into detail would take forever and it’d also give away way too much of the plot so I’m not going to say any more, just know you’re going to need to watch this one with a box of tissues handy. (Consider yourself warned.)

that smile

I’m convinced that what really makes this drama as amazing as it is are the characters and I’m not just talking about the stars. Yes, Jae Yeol and Hye Soo are amazing, dynamic, believable characters and I love them both but the supporting cast in this drama are every bit as brilliant and I love them just as much as I love the leads. Seriously. Every character is written so well and is portrayed with such sincerity, I can’t pick out a single character that doesn’t make me feel something for them. Sure, not all of my feelings are positive, but the fact that each and every one of these characters tugs on my heartstrings really sets this drama apart from the rest. By the end of this drama, I felt like I knew each and every one of these characters on a personal level and I was a little sad that I couldn’t actually call these people my friends. That’s how real these characters were.

cutie

I feel like I should be saying more about this drama but I don’t want to give any of the important plot points away and I don’t want to sit here and tell you a thousand times over that this drama is absolutely amazing. (Because though it is amazing, that would be very boring.) I guess this is just one of those rare times when I find myself at a loss for words. (I know, it’s hard to believe but it really does happen… Occasionally. I guess this goes to show you just how good this drama is!)

water fight

When you’ve got a drama that combines an interesting story with insanely lovable characters, played by an incredible cast of actors, you know you’ve found a winner and It’s Okay, That’s Love is definitely a winner. This drama is easily one of the best I’ve ever watched and I could sit here and sing its praises for the rest of forever. However that would make for one very long and boring review so I’ll just stop here and tell you that if you haven’t watched this one yet, you need to and soon. Of course, if you have watched this one, I’d love to know what you thought of it so be sure to leave me a comment below!

  1. This was an amazing drama! Difficult subjects were handled with compassion and non-judgment. The relationships were passionate and it honestly, has some of the most passionate kissing scenes in all of K-drama land. It’s intense, and be prepared to cry, but you will leave it feeling satisfied

  2. Absolutely one of the nest, if not THE best dramas I’ve ever watched. Everything about it was perfect. Made me laugh & cry & think, which says a lot.

I also loved the kisses. So delicious. *sighs*
