This weekend’s drama to marathon is everything a marathon-worthy drama should be. It’s cute, it’s funny, it’s mysterious, it’s imaginative, it’s chock-full of warm fuzzies, it’s got a fantastic cast, a great plot and an ending that doesn’t make you want to throw your computer across the room and then set it on fire. In short, it’s the perfect drama to curl up with as you unwind over the weekend.
Originally airing on tvN this past July/August, Oh My Ghost is the story of a timid young assistant chef, Na Bong Sun (Park Bo Young) who’s spent her entire life tormented by ghosts that only she can see. Working in the kitchen of star chef Kang Sun Woo (Jo Jung Suk), Bong Sun is overlooked and under-appreciated until one day she’s possessed by the spirit of Shin Soon Ae (Kim Seul Gi), a virgin ghost who has no memories of her death but carries one massive grudge. Possessed by the plucky and desperate spirit of Soon Ae, Na Bong Sun suddenly becomes a bright spot in the lives of her co-workers, eventually catching the eye of her boss, Kang Sun Woo. Unfortunately that’s not the only eye this “new” Bong Sun catches. Before either Bong Sun or Soon Ae know it, they’re caught up in a plot that may unravel the mystery of Soon Ae’s death if Bong Sun’s doesn’t end up dead first.
I have to say, I haven’t enjoyed watching a drama this much in a long, long time. Oh My Ghost really is everything a drama should be and I absolutely loved it. The cast and their chemistry was amazing. The OTP is so easy to love, the kitchen crew are just so beyond adorable you can’t help but envy Bong Sun just a little as she gets to work with such great guys… Well, except for maybe the sous chef. He really did get on my nerves but his heart was in the right place so I guess I can let his more irritating qualities slide. The villain of this story is complex and mysterious and I spent a lot of time wondering just what the heck was up with him, which was great because most of the time drama villains are so easy to read they quickly lose their edge.
While the concept of ghosts in a drama isn’t new, the way they were used in this story was unique as they weren’t used so much as a scare tactic but as a vital role in the story. The fact that Soon Ae’s character is just as important, if not more so, than Bong Sun’s makes this drama all the more interesting, especially once the stories of these characters begins to intertwine. It’s fun to see things from a ghost’s perspective and the spirit world in general adds some definite intrigue to the overall story.
While the drama itself follows a very typical down-and-out heroine winning the heart of the tough, indifferent, slightly wounded but ridiculously hot hero plot, I’m okay with it because this particular story is done really well. The way Soon Ae and Bong Sun interact with each other and with Sun Woo keeps things interesting (to say the least) and quite frankly there are times when I just want to sit down and watch a trope-filled drama full of cuteness, warm-fuzzies and great kisses. And boy, this drama has some really great kisses! Whew! Park Bo Young and Jo Jung Suk deserve some kind of award, their kisses are so good! But I digress…
If you’re looking for an entertaining drama to fill your weekend, one that makes you laugh, cry and squee all at the same time, you can’t go wrong with this one. It’s so much fun to watch the episodes just fly by and before you know it you find yourself at the end, walking away with one big, contented sigh of happiness. It’s easily one of the best dramas I’ve watched this year and I one I highly recommend. Of course we all have our own personal preferences and what floats my boat may not necessarily float yours which is why I wanna hear your thoughts on this one. I LOVED this drama. It had everything you wanted in all the right doses. Bong Sun learns so much about life and relationships from the ghostess. You will laugh a lot and shed some tears, but will walk away with a smile on your face when this drama is over. (I was a little bit confused as to how an evil spirit could take over someone, but with the ending as good as it was, I decided not to overthink it.) This was my favorite summer drama.
PS. The kisses were good, but as far as kissing scenes from summer dramas, I think Murphy’s Law of Love had them beat.)

I’m a pervert. I checked the kissing scene of Murphy law. Oh my ghostess is definitely hotter. What I don’t really like is how the chef behave in the beginning but when I think about it it’s his defence mechanism. The sad thing is the one that’s bullied becomes the bully. Thank god he change and I love how sassy Bong sun is in the last episode telling him she learns from the best on boasting skills. I love Bong Sun/Soon Ae lecture after they visit the tower. Even though her pestering for sex in normal circumstances can be harassment I don’t feEl that way because she has her reasons. Who am I to judge other cultures spiritual belief right? Other than that I love the writing and the cast. I might have a crush on Jo jung Suk. He should do more comedy. Bo Young and Ms Kim are just delightful. The drama have the right amount of everything. Never a boring moment. The evil spirit is quite scary..
