FRIDAY NIGHT DRAMA: Vampire Prosecutor 2

title

So, as I’m sure most of you know, today is Halloween here in the States and as such, I’ve got about a zillion things to do to get ready for tonight’s festivities. Because I’m kinda short on time, I’ve decided to feature the sequel to one of my favorite vampire-y dramas as this weekend’s drama to watch because there’s not a whole lot to say about it, other than it’s great, and it fits the spooky theme of the evening rather well. So, without further ado, I give you my super-short (but ever enthusiastic) take on this week’s Friday Night Drama, Vampire Prosecutor 2.

Originally airing on OCN from early September to mid-November, 2012, Vampire Prosecutor 2 is the next chapter in the story of Min Tae Yeon (Yun Jung Hoon), the prosecutor-turned-vampire who, accompanied by his friend, Detective Hwang Soon Bum (Lee Won Jong), fellow prosecutor Yoo Jung In (Lee Young Ah), Choi Dong Man (Kim Joo Young) and Coroner Jo Jung Hyun (Lee Kyung Young), set out to solve some rather brutal, murder cases. Using his supernatural abilities to recall the last moments of the victims’ lives, Tae Yeon is able to solve what would otherwise be nearly unsolvable cases but these cases are nothing compared to the personal cases he’s determined to solve, that of his own turning and finding out what’s become of his now vampire sister.

Being a fan of murder mystery/crime solving shows in general AND an unashamed lover of vampires, the entire Vampire Prosecutor series is a winner in my book. I love watching Tae Yeon use his vampire senses for good. I love the interaction between Tae Yeon and his team, especially now that Jung In knows that something’s up with Tae Yeon. I spent the entire first season of Vampire Prosecutor agonizing over the fact that Jung In was falling for Tae Yeon and he for her but he refused to let himself get close because of what he is so to see them get a little bit closer in this second season was great. I know you don’t really watch Vampire Prosecutor for the romance but it’s still there and I can’t help but give it notice because who doesn’t want to fall for a super-awesome, bad-guy-catching, vampire hottie like Tae Yeon? (Yeah, there’s that vampire love showing through. Sorry! I just can’t help myself!)

Vampire Prosecutor 2 is a bit heavier on the gore than its predecessor so if you’re a bit squeamish about the murder aspect of this murder-mystery drama, well, you may have to close your eyes but honestly, it’s not anywhere nearly as bad as what’s on TV here in the U.S. so you should be fine. As far as the story itself goes, I liked that this second season had a larger mystery going on in the background, while the individual cases stayed in the forefront of each episode, as it gave a broader scope to the entire drama. Sadly, this broader scope left me begging for more as the credits of the last episode rolled and I’m still sitting here waiting for the next installment of the Vampire Prosecutor series. (And this would be my very heavy hint to the powers that be to PLEASE MAKE A SEASON 3!!!)

With only eleven episodes, Vampire Prosecutor 2 is an easy drama to marathon and if it weren’t for the fact that I’ve got four little zombies begging to go trick-or-treating, I’d probably spend my Halloween snuggled up on the couch, re-watching this very drama. (Call me crazy, but going trick-or-treating in the SNOW just doesn’t sound very appealing at the moment. Go figure!) As always, if you’ve already watched this drama (or once you’ve finished) I want to know what you think, so be sure to let me know by leaving me a comment below. Oh, and before I forget… HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
