Hallyu Zombie Drama Review: Bride of the Century Episodes 15-16 (1/2)

Ep15-07

This week was our last two episodes of Bride of the Century. While it is hard to say goodbye to some well-loved characters, we were at least provided some sort of conclusion to all of our on-going story lines…

Ep15-04

It has taken 15 episodes, but we finally know exactly who Joo Shin is and how she was related to the Choi family. She was a maid at the family home during the time of Kang Ju’s great-great-Grandfather. After an affair, she gave birth to his son. Directly after childbirth, she was killed by the ancestor of Ma Jae Ran (Yi Kyung’s mother), who was simply referred to as Nanny. To make matters a little more complicated, Doo Rim is the reincarnation of Boon Ee, another household maid who saved the son from Nanny after Joo Shin was murdered.

Ep15-12

Speaking of Ma Jae Ran, she pretty much got hers as seeing Joo Shin and images of her ancestor committing murder basically sent her to the mental health ward. She can’t handle what she has done, which is basically so similar to the actions of her ancestor, that she loses her mind. She starts eating uncontrollably, in a creepy way. She stops recognizing Yi Kyung at one point. Eventually, when Doo Rim returns over a year later, Jae Ran has started to return to normal and asks her for forgiveness. I think that this woman has truly realized the evil she almost committed and punished herself. I hope that whole family becomes better. If Yi Kyung and Yi Hyun are any indication, they’ll be fine.

Ep15-05

Kang Ju’s mother, Myung Hee, ends up leaving the family home to come to terms with everything that has happened. She too is haunted by the fact that she let such circumstances determine her life. She also is trying to recover from the realization that her mother murdered for her and the overall death of her mother after the news came out. I am happy to report that she does return home after a year and has a much better sense of self. She has become a little bit more sassy as well, but reintegrates into the family without difficulty. She even passes on the title of “Lady of the House” to Doo Rim willingly and asks her to care for the family.

Ep15-09

Roo Mi and Kang In have such a cute little ended. No, they aren’t technically together, but if Kang In has his way, it’ll be soon! He asks the fortune teller to convince Roo Mi that he is the perfect match for her and despite her claims she’s not interested in hearing it, she clearly is. It was adorable. I’m also happy to see the Roo Mi was truly able to move on from Kang Ju and start living her life for herself.

Ep15-10

And then we have our main couple. News of Doo Rim comes out via Jae Ran and she is essentially chased out by the neighbors and press because of harassment. We find out shortly after she leaves that she is actually pregnant! Rejoice! Although she cut off contact from Kang Ju for over a year, he keeps searching until he finds her. He meets their son. Kang Ju brings Doo Rim back to clear up any bad blood in the family and she is accepted. She is, thankfully, on all levels and they all live happily ever after!

Ep15-11

One Reply to “Hallyu Zombie Drama Review: Bride of the Century Episodes 15-16 (1/2)”

  1. 1st – I had begun to give up hope that they had a real honeymoon. They go from sleeping fully clothed (including jewelry – gotta be uncomfortable) to living apart to forced (in her imagination) separation to baby.
2nd – I hope that baby inherits his brains. Cause she acted like she didn’t have any. The whole show there was only one thing that she could really be justified in blaming herself for and that is leaving him, yet she seemed bound & determined to say it was all her fault. No, it was the evil Mom & daughter. Surely he’s going to resent her for that.
Although, maybe she had baby brain & the baby “stole her braincells” a pregnant coworker told me of a phenomenon called “baby brain” where pregnant women don’t think very clearly/are forgetful.
3rd – the reason they look alike was more implausible/impossible then I had imagined.
4th – I did like BotC and it had a great cast. (she’s wonderful) But I wish they wouldn’t throw logic out the window so often during the last week.
