Hallyu Zombie Drama Review: Bride of the Century Episodes 9-10 (2/2)

Ep10-1.png

Shai: This week was rather eventful with the truth coming out about the curse and all. What did you think about that?
Tanya: I am happy it actually ended up being a test, but that makes you think of the level of crazy that these women have to be every time the first wife has actually died. That means there is so much underlying evil in the people surrounding that family that it is pretty astounding. I am appreciative that Kang Ju came back around, but how is Doo Rim going to tell him the truth?
Shai: I was actually screaming “I knew it!” when Ghost Lady told Doo Rim the truth. I mean, I had a feeling that it was a test since everyone else seemed to be more evil than the ghost herself. Yes, this does mean that all the villains are the humans and not the ghost, which is just crazy and makes me feel so bad for any potential bride for this family. You have psycho women with one-sided crushes, murderous mother in laws and then possibly a curse that may or may not kill you. About Doo Rim, I don’t even know how she’s going to tell him. I don’t think she will. From the looks of it, that person who tells may be Roo Mi, of all people.

Ep10-2.png

Tanya: I have a feeling that it will end up being Roo Mi as well. She certainly up to something, but I hope Doo Rim is able to reflect her feelings accurately or Yi Kyung somehow takes all the blame for it because of her and her mother’s selfish actions. There has to be some way out of this mess.
Shai: I like spoilers so I read the preview for this week’s episodes, which is why I am confident Roo Mi has turned over a new leaf..at least I’m hoping. She’s a schemer, but not the murderous type so I think we can count her out of the people trying to off Doo Rim. I doubt Yi Kyung will take the fall for her mother, she’s not that selfless and it would be totally out of character. The most she can do is acknowledge her own fault in this situation and let her mom own up to what she did. I do wonder how everyone will get out of this. I think Il Do’s situation will help get some truth out there.
Tanya: I think it will definitely offer some insight. Let’s just hope that Kang Ju loves Doo Rim enough that he’ll be able to get past the betrayal quickly and not leave us hanging for several episodes. Yi Hyun will probably be a factor in pushing Kang Ju along, as well as his father and Kang In. We’ve already seen Kang In push Kang Ju forward last week by questioning his love for Doo Rim (as Yi Kyung). With that, how naive can Doo Rim be? Did she actually think that Ma Jae Ran would honestly let her remain with Kang Ju?

Ep10-3.png

Shai: I had initially thought Yi Hyun would be a major factor in Doo Rim getting back together with Kang Ju. He can stress that Doo Rim had no prior knowledge of Jae Ran’s actual plan then Roo Mi can play cupid as well. Doo Rim is the female lead, she’s pretty naive but not totally clueless. Ghost Lady warned her that it’s the people around her who are trying to hurt her then Yi Hyun said that they were trying to make her the sacrificial lamb. What happened to Kang In?
Tanya: I still have this feeling, as I have for weeks, that Yi Hyun is going to call Kang Ju because Doo Rim is in danger and in doing so tell Kang Ju the truth. He’ll be so blinded by love and fear for her life that he won’t care about the lie all that much. And if he does, Kang In will be there with his, “Dude, get over it.” attitude.
Shai: Yeah, I also had a feeling that Yi Hyun would be the one to tell Kang Ju but I think the one to open his eyes will be Roo Mi.

Ep10-4.png

Tanya: What did you think of their wedding? It was actually kind of sweet. I like that it was simple and no fuss.
Shai: I loved their wedding, it was small and intimate. It was pure Doo Rim, which is the main difference between her and Yi Kyung. Their vows were sweet and I just loved the overall feel of it.
Tanya: I hope that Kang Ju manages to recognize the differences between the two. Doo Rim is far more suited to who he is as a person than Yi Kyung. If he had actually married Yi Kyung, even without family approval, you know she would have insisted on pomp and circumstance anyway.

Ep10-5.png

Shai: That’s why I hope with Roo Mi’s hinting he’ll finally see the difference. They have two different personalities and their outlook isn’t the same either. I’m sure if he were to ask about certain events that Doo Rim never told Yi Kyung then that would be a factor. They did kiss on that bench with the cake, Yi Kyung knows nothing about this or even how Kang Ju truly confessed his feelings in the mall.
Tanya: There is a lot she won’t know, but at least we can be confident in the fact that every time they have kissed, he’s been kissing Doo Rim! The first time he tries to get close to Yi Kyung she’ll be super uncomfortable and it will probably be noticeable to everyone, including Kang Ju. I think his father and brother have noticed the difference for sure, although they may not actually know why.
Shai: It’s dramaland, that’s why no one has actually noticed the difference minus the motor mouth housekeeper. Yi Kyung is somewhat jealous of what Kang Ju and Doo Rim have, she appeared to not be happy about Doo Rim not caring if she lived or died as long as she was with Kang Ju. I think Yi Kyung will break soon and will leave her mother alone.

Ep10-6.png

Tanya: One thing I have to wonder: What is Kang Ju’s mother up to? She has a serious case of being a creeper when Kang Ju told his father he was going to get married anyway. What do you think her next move is?
Shai: I think she wants to make sure Roo Mi is wife #2. I have always suspected her mother of killing of the first wife since Myung Hee just had to have Il Do or else she would die. She picked Yi Kyung to make her the sacrificial lamb and now that she’s lived til the next day, I’m kinda scared about what’s going on in her head. Do you have any theories on the first bride we saw? Doo Rim’s grandmother had the shoe.
Tanya: I totally forgot about that! I don’t even know where that string might lead. Maybe a close friend at one point?
Shai: Some think she’s the original wife who was thought to have died off that cliff. She seemed to have a nightmare and went straight for the shoe when she woke up. When Ghost Lady said that the curse is actually a test, well I think she may have failed the test and Joo Shin gave her the option to leave and for everyone to think she went missing or died. Yang Jin Sung played the first bride that went missing so not sure if that means there’s a connection or not.
Tanya: That actually would make sense, but at the same time I would be doing everything I could to keep my granddaughter away from that family if that were the case. She doesn’t actually know that Doo Rim is seeing Kang Ju, but I still would be steering clear of everything including the city they lived in.
Shai: That was probably a distant memory for her (if it is her) so she wouldn’t think about it. Halmoni thinks Doo Rim is seeing Yi Hyun so living closer to him is probably what she’s thinking right now.

Ep10-7.png

Tanya: That is true. Poor Jin Joo, by the way. Trying to remain true to her friend but having so much guilt towards the grandmother about what Doo Rim is actually doing.
Shai: I do feel for Jin Joo. She knows so much, but can’t say anything. I’m glad she spilled the beans to Yi Hyun at least. Wanna bet Roo Mi will be visiting her again to get the actual truth about the switch?

Tanya: I don’t doubt it. Roo Mi did see Jin Joo in the restaurant when Doo Rim returned home, plus she likes to dig where she doesn’t belong. Jin Joo has enough guilt that she may actually let it slip even if she shouldn’t…

Ep10-8.png

Shai: Yep. She’s going to want to say something to protect Doo Rim, but Jin Joo doesn’t have the crucial piece of information that Jae Ran and Yi Kyung were using Doo Rim to get what they want. So I’m wondering if Roo Mi will find this out…

Tanya: We can only hope Yi Kyung or Yi Hyun will let that part out of the bag!
