HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Doctor Stranger Episodes 11-12 (2/2)

Jae Joon and Hoon

Tanya: Can I just say that I’m actually proud of both Hoon and Jae Joon this week? They both have goals. They both have things they can lose. While they struggled, neither was willing to give up their morals. I’m all for that!

Zombie: I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in Hoon, letting Cha Jin Soo scare him into putting Jae Hee before a patient in need BUT since he decided to stop being selfish and did the right thing in the end, I forgive him and applaud both him and Jae Joon for doing what is right, rather than being total selfish pigs.

Tanya: Although, I do have to take a minute and point out that while Hoon was trying make a point, “Um… hello? Patient dying on the table? Do we really have time to be looking?” Yes, yes. I’m aware it’s a drama and they must have impact, but….? Anyway, I smell the start of a beautiful bromance!

Hoon to the rescue

Zombie: Yes yes! I’m super excited about what this sudden cooperation will mean for Hoon and Jae Joon, post-operation. I spent these entire two episodes yelling at my computer every time it looked like Hoon and Jae Joon would end up on the same side and then didn’t. If they would just take a minute to really communicate with each other, they’d quickly realize they share the same goals and then nothing in the world would be able to stop them. They really would become the Dynamic Duo! Or maybe the Unstoppable Duo??? Whatever you’d like to call them, they’d be an incredible force and I’m waiting quite impatiently for them to get together and take on the world!

Tanya: We can talk about Dynamic Duo, but it’s definitely not time for a k-pop conversation (yes I just went there). I think that this “learning each other through surgery together” thing is going to open a lot of realization for both. I don’t necessarily see either spilling the beans right away, but now that we’ve seen proof they are both bigger people, they have definitely pushed to have thing going in the right direction. Also, tension much? Jae Hee knows she’s not the only one Hoon cares about…. or cares for him for that matter.

worried about dr. oh

Zombie: She’s also not very good at hiding her feelings whenever she sees Hoon and Soo Hyun together. I know Hoon is pretty oblivious to the fact that Soo Hyun is quickly falling for him but that doesn’t mean everyone else is. I’m honestly starting to feel a little torn about this (Soo Hyun’s feelings that is) because there are moments when Jae Joon seems to really care about her and there are times when he seems like he couldn’t care less. When he’s sincere, I think he would be a good choice for Soo Hyun but most of the time, I think she’s better off liking Hoon, even if he never returns her feelings. At least Hoon is genuine all the time and everyone knows it. The guy wears his heart on his sleeve like it’s some sort of medal.

Tanya: I still don’t think Jae Joon’s feelings are completely real. I think that he cares for her, but not in a romantic sort of way because he’s just been focused on his goal. The damage has already been done. Hoon would be better for her personality-wise.

Zombie: I think Hoon would be better for her in every way, if he weren’t completely stuck on Jae Hee, that is. Grr! I’m so frustrated with his Jae Hee obsession. I get that he believes she’s his soul mate and whatnot but I believe she’s an evil spy who’s going to destroy the world and crush Hoon’s heart and I just want to get her out-of-the-way permanently so Hoon can finally move on with his life. He’s been stuck on Jae Hee for far too long and it’s almost destroyed him on multiple occasions. I really would like to see him free himself from both Jae Hee and his past but some pretty significant stuff is going to have to happen if that’s ever going to be even remotely possible.

why'd you leave your hair

Tanya: Patience Zombie. Sudden realization will be upon him shortly. It has to be. There is just no way to pull her out as we saw during the conversation with the General after they “kidnapped” her last week. She’s just too evil to suddenly be good.

Zombie: True. With only eight episodes left, things are going to start happening pretty fast if we’re ever going to get even a remotely satisfying ending. In the meantime, I do hope that Hoon starts to get a clue, not just about Jae Hee but also about well, pretty much everything and everyone else around him. As incredibly smart and talented as Hoon is, he’s certainly quite blind to the feelings and actions of those closest to him. Or maybe he knows exactly what everyone around him is thinking/feeling and he just chooses to ignore them because it’s easier to stay focused on one person (Jae Hee) than to try to juggle the feelings and emotions of everyone around him. Or, here’s another thought, perhaps he’s so confused in his own right that he just can’t process anything else. I’m pretty sure he’s got some suspicions about a lot of things at the moment, maybe he’s just trying to process his own thoughts and can’t deal with anything else. Whatever the reason, that little light bulb needs to be going on right about now or Hoon’s going to suffer a whole lot more than he already has before the end.

Tanya: We have seen the pace pick up these past few episodes, so I’m certain that the writers will do us justice and manage to get all of it in without crumbling the storyline. I’m actually going to go with the latter on that one. I think Hoon is very aware, but chooses not to acknowledge half of what’s going on around him. I believe it’s part of his coping mechanism, honestly. I’m sure there is some confusion, but he’s honestly just too aware, like the scene where we see him and Jae Joon contemplating this patient separately. He’s totally calm and very at peace in that moment just because he is aware. May not know how to fix it, but definitely aware… And that’s how he comes up with his plans.

do what I tell you

Zombie: Very true. I am anxious to see where things go now that both Hoon and Jae Joon have defied Oh Joon Gyu. What’s the director of the hospital going to do now that both of his top surgeons have decided to act on behalf of the patient, instead of on behalf of the hospital? I also want to know what’s going to happen now that Hoon has openly defied Cha Jin Soo. All of Jin Soo’s threats are going to become meaningless if he doesn’t follow through with them and yet he can’t follow through with them if it means hurting Jae Hee. She may be Hoon’s greatest weakness but she’s also Jin Soo’s greatest asset. If he loses her, he’s got nothing on Hoon.

Tanya: I feel like we should be back in the 90’s “drama in the ER!” This is going to get interesting fast. I’m just hoping the Northern agents go out in a blaze of glory (I’m full of bad puns today) and we get the conclusion we were hoping for… Hoon is happy, Jae Joon is happy, Jae Hee disappears, Jin Soo gets what’s coming to him, Glasses has an unlimited lifetime supply of lollipops, and the Prime Minister has also met his end. Sorry Doctors Oh. I just don’t know what I want for you two yet.

Zombie: I know what I want for her but I’m not sure she’s going to get it. In my happy ending she and Hoon are together, Jae Hee, Jin Soo and the Prime Minister are all dead, Jae Joon get to crumble the hospital and crush Oh Joon Gyu and we all live happily ever after. I know, I’m terrible, wanting people to die and be crushed and all… Oh well, it’s not like I have any say in things anyway. I’m just sitting here hoping…

Tanya: It could fall under the “Hoon is happy” category. We’ll see! This is dramaland after all!
