HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Doctor Stranger Episodes 13-14 (2/2)

interesting taste

Tanya: Can I just say that this drama knows how to frustrate me to no end?! Just when I think the bromance is going to start happening IT BACKFIRES! I seriously needed all caps for that one.

Zombie: You know, I actually spent quite a lot of time this week thinking about you as I watched this bromance almost blossom and then fall spectacularly to pieces. I had a feeling you’d be as frustrated about this as I was. We were so close… SO CLOSE! And now Jae Joon has to be all angry at Hoon and for what? Is Hoon supposed to be responsible for his father’s disappearance? Heck, is Park Cheol even responsible? I think Jae Joon would do well to take a minute and really think about where he wants to lay blame because really, does he sincerely think Hoon’s life in North Korea was all sunshine and rainbow ponies?

Tanya: Wait, you mean humans don’t bleed rainbows like unicorns? Okay, that was inappropriate, but you love me anyway. I want to know how Jae Joon’s connection just totally assumes they went North willingly because that totally makes sense, doesn’t it? I know I want… Oh, wait.

comfortable life

Zombie: Right? That’s why I said Jae Joon need to stop and think for a minute. I mean how many people does he know that have immigrated to the North because they wanted a better life??? I know Jae Joon is smarter than that so why is he assuming such nonsense now? He should at least make the effort to uncover the WHOLE truth before he starts jumping to ridiculous conclusions. Of course that’s something only intelligent non-Dramaland people would do and well, as brilliant as Jae Joon is, he’s still stuck in Dramaland therefore, he can’t think straight 98% of the time.

Tanya: He is ruled by emotions even though he tries not to be. The fact that he tries to keep internal makes his character so…. flat? I feel like Jae Joon could be so much more dynamic if he would just act upon what he feels. Also, he needs to recognize who is really to blame for what happened to his parents, which in no part includes Hoon, and take them out. If he were honest with Hoon for two seconds, they would figure out they hate the same people and Jae Joon would know that the Prime Minister was involved in the disappearance of Park Cheol and it this whole thing is WAY bigger than some face of a hospital.

Zombie: I’ve been saying that for what feels like forever! If Jae Joon and Hoon could talk, for just a minute or two, openly and honestly, they’d realize THEY’RE ON THE SAME SIDE!!! It’s so frustrating to watch these two fighting against each other when they should be fighting a whole lot of other people. But since we can’t talk about Jae Joon and Hoon’s potential bromance forever, let’s talk a bit about Jae Hee and her big plot reveal. I have so many thoughts on this but I’m going to ask yours first. Do you think she’s telling the truth? Is she really plotting so save Hoon and his mom or is she lying through her teeth? (Can you guess what I’m thinking?)

save us, save you

Tanya: All I can say about that without exploding in a thousand pieces is woman has got to go. I’m stealing your hair thing…. Hoon cut his hair. And I know you want to cry about it, but I feel like it’s the signal that he’s starting to pull away from Jae Hee, in fact he outright distrusts her with his mom, and all of a sudden we see the light bulb turn on!

Zombie: Well, since you put it that way, I’ll let the whole hair thing go with only a little sigh of remorse. I’ll miss you crazy floppy hair! However, if cutting his hair means distancing himself from Jae Hee, then I’m all for it! Now about that light bulb moment… Seriously one of the best moments in this entire drama! The look in Hoon’s eyes when he confronted Jae Hee and flat-out told her that he doesn’t trust her was absolutely priceless. Finally Hoon is starting to realize Jae Hee may not be the sweet and wonderful woman he always thought she was! Of course then she has to turn around and play the “I love you” card and totally mess with his head… AGAIN! Punk! Seriously, Jae Hee needs to just go away… Permanently.

Tanya: Like I said last week, I think Hoon has always been totally aware even if there is that part of him that irrationally hangs on to her. He had to know for certain. He had to confirm it and now that he can’t confirm it he can completely distrust her and not feel bad about it. He know she’s playing him but I have a feeling he’s going to let her think that she has him under control just to try to gain the upper hand on this one.

ever thought i'd doubt you

Zombie: I seriously hope you’re right on this one. I really need to see Hoon not getting played by those around him. It seems like everyone is trying to manipulate him into something and it’s so sad to watch because Hoon deserves so much better! He’s got such a good heart and he needs to get out of this tangled web of crazy and live a normal, peaceful life with a woman who actually loves him. *coughSooHyuncough*

Tanya: So this may be random, and I’m happy water girl has some interest now, but sleazy doctor guy needs to go. He just creeps me out more than adding anything to the actual show for me.

Zombie: No kidding! He’s such a creeper! Yuck! Maybe Chang Yi can literally knock some sense into him? Or at least knock the creeper out??? That would be nice. So, let’s talk a little bit about Soo Hyun before we wrap this up. Poor girl! She’s so head-over-heels for Hoon and yet she refuses to admit it to anyone, including herself. I hope Hoon can pick up on her “I like you” vibes and reciprocate those feelings soon. Soo Hyun hasn’t had the most delightful of childhoods and I’m sure she could use some love just as badly as Hoon. Just one more reason for these two to get together before the end.

do you like me

Tanya: I’m one of those people who believes you need to open your mouth….. especially in a drama. Life in DramaLand is too short for your nonsense, so grow up and use your words! Tell him you like him, Soo Hyun! Although we all totally know that he knows because he’s said so, but you can’t really move forward if you don’t confirm. I also feel like Hoon is pushing her away a little until this bit with Jae Hee is done, but he likes her too. At least I think so it needs to be! Hear me drama gods?! It needs to happen! (And this is why we shouldn’t let Tanya write drama reviews at 1:44 in the morning)

Zombie: I’m not going to argue you with you on that one! I need these two to end up together and that’s only going to happen if Soo Hyun stops denying she loves Hoon and starts confessing! It does make sense for Hoon to keep her away, seeing as I’m sure he still has lingering feelings for Jae Hee and it would be best for Soo Hyun to keep as far away from all of Hoon’s drama as possible but still… I would like to see things develop between these two a little faster. There are only six episodes left, after all and I’d really like to see some happy Hoon/Soo Hyun time.

Tanya: In their defense, they do manage to pack a LOT of content into an episode and we get two every week, so our fan girl dreams are completely possible by the end of this series.

Zombie: Here’s hoping!

So tell us, what do you think about this week’s developments? Are you as disappointed as we are about the almost bromance that never happened? What about Jae Hee? Is she good? Is she evil? Is she Hoon’s one true love or does she need to just go away? How about Soo Hyun? Will she ever admit her feelings for Hoon? Will Hoon ever love her back? Will Hoon ever be free from his past and have the chance to live a normal life? There are so many questions that need answering but we’ll leave the rest up to you, so leave us all your comments below!
