HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Doctor Stranger Episodes 7-8 (1/2)

Visualize

There was a lot more back and forth between “Is she Seung Hee or is she Jae Hee?” this week and I can honestly just about the time I’m sure of who she is, there is another twist with the character and then I’m confused all over again. In my opinion, this signals an amazing drama! I’m impressed… Let’s get into this week’s happenings.

Finally, Choi Byung Cheol confesses to Park Hoon why his father was sent to North Korea. He arrives and Hoon’s office to explain the situation around the malpractice suit his father was championing against Myung Woo Hospital. The hospital needed him to disappear and, then assemblyman, Jang needed a cardiologist to send North to prevent the war. Although Hoon has his moments of anger, Dr Choi provides answers to help Hoon including details of the family involved in the lawsuit. Although the parents died, the son who was left behind was adopted by an American Family. Dr. Choi also tells Hoon that he is searching for him…

It was truly difficult to watch Hoon’s emotions through the scene. Sadness to anger to grieving… It was just to see just how much all of this has affected Hoon during his relatively-short life. Hoon still holds a huge amount of guilt for everything he has had to do to survive in the past. We’ve seen that he was ordered to kill people for the benefit of others, or just because someone wanted that person dead. His father died to try and help give Hoon a way out of the North. That is a lot for one person to carry all on their own.

The contest is finally underway are both teams race to safe the twin babies from last week. As things start to get more competitive, we learn the boy Dr. Choi is searching for is actually Jae Joon, which I actually did not see coming! It actually makes Jae Joon’s story make more sense though because he clearly wants to take Myung Woo hospital down. Although he actually says that he wants to be in charge, he clearly has ill intentions and I think if the whole story becomes clear, Jae Joon and Hoon may team up to take Prime Minister Jang and the hospital down for ruining their lives.

There were moments of love triangle jealousy when Jae Joon saw Hoon holding Soo Hyun. I’m not entirely sure it was innocent, but she did ask Hoon for help learning the procedure and he was walking her through it with his visualizing technique. There seemed to be a little more there than Hoon will admit and it was certainly enough to make Jae Joon angry because another man was moving in on his territory. I’m still not sure if Jae Joon actually like Soo Hyun or if he’s worried that Hoon will ruin his plans by pulling her away from him but it’ll be interesting to watch.

Hoon also takes on Prime Minister Jang as they meet again for the first time since he was a child. Although I tend to avoid conflict, the punch Hoon deals out on Jang didn’t seem like enough to me. I wanted more… and I got it through the conversation they had afterwards. Hoon warns Jang that he better hope he doesn’t win the contest because he will stab a hole straight through his heart.

DS14-1

There has been a lot of flip-flopping on which doctor they want to perform the operation on the Prime Minister. At first the plan was Hoon, now it’s Jae Joon. After the decision is changed, Jang’s bodyguard (who we loving call ‘glasses’) informs the two North Korean agents, Seung Hee and General Cha, then proceeds to pull a gun on Seung Hee.

There is so much more to this conspiracy than I can handle sometimes. Is Seung Hee really Jae Hee? Why did the Prime Minister change his decision? Will Hoon and Jae Joon save the babies? Will they end up teaming up to take the hospital down? Who will Soo Hyun end up with? Tell me what you think in the comments below or tweet @Hallyu_Tanya!

  1. It’s quite the plot and I can’t wait to find out more.

I did guess that Jae Joon would be the child Choi is searching for since, well, it’s Dramaland.

I really think that Jae Hee/Seung Hee are the same but that she has been a part of the whole plan since VERY early. As in little girl early. Why was she even there as a little girl? We know why Hoon was there (and it wasn’t due to positive reasons). Why was her father and eventually she kidnapped? Staying close to him was probably her assignment. Maybe she fell for him in the midst of it (how could you not?) but given the political string pullers, and the North patriotism, she carried out her orders to a T.

I think Hoon suspects she’s JH playing the role of SH and that there’s a reason for why she’s doing what she’s doing. Why else would he have asked that she and scarface be followed? (Which, btw, I feel bad for this water bottle girl who is pining for Hoon but is such a weak love interest that I keep forgetting her name.)

Little by little, as Hoon peels away the layers of the conspiracy surrounding his father, the hospital, and the politicians, he’s going to slowly fall out of love. He’s probably going to realize that the girl he loved (JH) was never real and that the girl that is there (SH) is not the kind of person who he fell in love with. Hopefully he’ll start to see Dr.Oh in a different light but Dr.Oh needs to be less wishy-washy (what happened to the windshield smashing girl?) and call it off with JJ.

JJ started by viewing her as another pawn in his scheme and his odd jealousy is out of pride (Hoon is taking what’s “mine”, like taking “his” anesthesiologist and then “his” first) and not out of love.

Now “Glasses” is one I’m certainly curious about. Is he really trying to kill JH or is JH a double agent and this is an act for Scarface? After all, he’s pointing to her chest, not her head.

    1. I brought up that Jae Hee may have been involved since she was a child, but sometimes I end up with lingering doubts. Although I didn’t see the Jae Joon thing, it totally makes sense and I don’t know WHY I didn’t think about that. It’s going to see how everything plays out. I’m also wondering why Glasses chose her chest and not her head… the preview shows her moving it to her head, so we’ll have to see! I think Glasses is secretly a good guy honestly.

      1. Glasses definitely gives off a good guy vibe, especially when we see him considering the lollipop. I’m not even sure he’s fully supportive of the Prime Minister tbh. (Another one with a hidden agenda?) The manipulations taking place on the political end are quite an intricate web and I think we’re still missing a piece or two of that puzzle. I think someone else (aside from that one bodyguard) is working for the president and/or the North.

        1. Personally, I think a whole lot of people are working with and/or for the North and as the story unfolds, we’re going to find ourselves going “Whoa!” on more than one occasion. There’s a big part of me that wonders if the Prime Minister himself hasn’t been placed in his position by the North Korean government. You know he’s had to have been in contact with North Korea for a very long time since he was the one who came up with the plan to advert war and save North Korea’s glorious leader. Who’s to say that there hasn’t been some dark and sinister plot that’s been slowly unfolding for all of these years and we’re just beginning to see pieces of it now? I know I may sound a bit like a conspiracy theorist at this point but I’d like to believe there is at least some merit to my theories.

Whether I’m crazy or not, I do think that Glasses is more of a good guy than a bad guy. He’s done so much to help Hoon already, I can’t help but think that the innocent little boy that offered him a lollipop all those years ago has made quite an impression. I really hope that Glasses turns out to be the ultimate good guy in the end.
