HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Emergency Couple Episodes 20-21 (1/4)

four friendsThough it’s hard to believe, this week brings with it the final episodes of Emergency Couple and while this drama and I got off on the wrong foot, I’ll be the first to admit that this drama has steadily grown on me, so much so that I’m actually a little sad to be saying my final farewells.

bikingWith these final two episodes, I thought things wrapped up nicely for pretty much every one of the doctors and interns we’ve been following so diligently these past eleven weeks. As expected, Chang Min and Jin Hee finally found their “happily ever after” and I’m glad to see that this time, they’ve opted to take things a bit slower and just enjoy each moment as it comes. They’ve both been through so much, they need this time to reconnect, rekindle their old flame and most importantly, heal the wounds they’ve both been suffering from for all these years. I have no doubt that, at some point down the road, they’ll both agree that marriage is the next step for them to take but I think that when that time comes, they’ll both have a full understanding of just how big of a commitment they’re making and they’ll both fully appreciate what their marriage vows really mean.

you have to come backI’m happy to see that Dr. Gook and Dr. Shim have been left in a place where they have both come to (in their own way) admit their feelings for each other. Admittedly, I would have liked to have seen them progress a bit further before the end but I suppose I’ll just have to content myself with imagining that these first baby steps are what eventually leads them to a long and happy life together.

together for the internship at leastAs was predicted by myself, Tanya and Karen, our lovey-dovey newlywed couple, Sang Hyuk and Young Ae, stood on the brink of divorce by the end of this drama but were talked out of making such a hasty decision by Chang Min and Jin Hee. Sometimes characters are just too predictable and these two were certainly a couple of them. Their stupid arguments annoyed me more times than I care to recall but I’m still happy to see they’ve decided to work things out rather than just give up on their marriage altogether. I’ll give them a hearty “Fighting!” along with a desperate wish to see them both grow up soon.

Yong kyu and ah reum happy togetherAmazingly, Ah Reum and Yong Kyu got together in the end and even more amazingly is how much I’m okay with that. For the longest time Ah Reum annoyed the crap out of me and wanted nothing more than to see her drop off the face of the Earth but she, like so many of this drama’s characters, really grew up a lot as the story progressed, so much so, I’m actually happy that she and Yong Kyu get to live “happily ever after.” I think Ah Reum has finally come to see just how adorable Yong Kyu is and I think she’s genuinely fallen for his endearing lost puppy charms.

the mothersAs for the rest of the cast, well, they’ve all managed to end up better off than when we first started. I’m honestly surprised by the number of characters that have matured over the course of this drama. It’s not every day you find a spoiled mother-in-law from Hades leaving her child-tormenting ways but that’s exactly what Yoon Sung Sook did and for that I’m sure we’re all glad! Amazingly, she wasn’t the only character that did some growing. Chang Min, Jin Hee, Dr. Gook, Ah Reum, Sang Hyuk, Young Ae, Yang Ja, Jin Ae, Gwang Soo… They all did quite an impressive amount of growing (at least by DramaLand standards) and as a result, they all found a way to live their own “happily ever after,” which leaves me one very satisfied drama-junkie.

  1. Annyeong zombie mamma. It’s been a while since I last left a comment on your posts. Been quite busy with all sorts of things in life… hehehe. Anyhow, I am satisfied with the ending as all the characters end up happy. However, I must say that i am quite greedy as deeply in my heart I really wished jin hee to end up with dr gook. But I am content enough to see lee pil mo hugged ji hyo in the bloopers at the end of final episode.

Am really gonnna miss the gooks in this drama -》I’m referring to dr gook and the adorable baby gook.

    1. I’m glad you came back for the ending at least! I’m pretty happy with how things turned out for everyone in the story. Though, honestly, I would have liked to have seen one good kiss between Drs. Gook and Shim. I think they deserved to get a bit farther than where they were left, especially since Dr. Gook never stood a chance with Jin Hee (though there were times I wish he had) but I guess we can’t have everything, right? 🙂

I’m gonna miss Baby Gook too! He was so adorable! I know we’re planning to dedicate a final post just to Baby Gook in all of his adorable cuteness to be sure to come back and check it out later this week!

I hope you find your way back soon to talk about more dramas. If there’s one thing I love, it’s talking about dramas with my fellow K-drama loving chingus! 🙂

      1. “a final post just to Baby Gook in all of his adorable cuteness” –> oh please, please do so. I’ll definitely back for that.

Actually I have been reading all your posts on Emergency Couple and especially Bride of the Century, which is getting really2 interesting (love how Kang Ju takes charge and makes bold decisions in the latest episodes). I am in the phase of my first trimester’s morning sickness, hence the minimal comments. But I love reading the reviews written by you and your other chingus. Thank you for giving us, the kdrama crazy fans a platform to virtually talk about it. Keep on writing!

        1. I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been enjoying our drama reviews! We’ve had so much fun writing them, it’s nice to know someone else is enjoying them! I hope you can find the time to come back in the future! If there are any dramas you’d like to see us review in the future, please let me know. I’m always looking for new dramas to review! Congratulations, btw! Babies are the best! And I totally understand how you’re feeling with the morning sickness, I had morning sickness for months with all four of my pregnancies! I so feel your queasiness! Hang in there! It will get better eventually! I promise! 🙂

  2. Thanks Zombie Mamma, and you are most welcome Karen!

So, ZM you have 4 kids? Same here, this will be my fifth… although the experiences in each pregnancies varies, the morning sickness is the same for me. If it’s keeping the same pattern as my other pregnancies, then I assume it would stop in my early 2nd trimester, and I’m only in my 6 weeks… I guess I’ll just have to endure it the best I can.

But one thing for sure, it’ll not stop me from the kdrama craziness and I will keep myself updated on your posts from time to time!
