HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: It’s Okay, That’s Love Episodes 1-2 (1/2)

in a field

Hello everyone! Hallyu Tanya and I are back with another Hallyu Zombie Drama Review and since I know you’re all as excited as I am about us reviewing It’s Okay, That’s Love… (Okay, so maybe you’re not quite as excited as I am but I’m going to pretend that you are so that I feel better about myself. Ha!) Anyhoo, whether you’re excited or not, I’m happy to be reviewing this drama so let’s just skip all of this introductory fluff and dive in, shall we?

stab

So, as is typical with the first two episodes of a new drama, there’s not really a lot going on beyond the introduction of characters and a very basic layout of the plot but that’s not to say that these first two episodes were boring. On the contrary, I really liked how this story took off with a shot (or a stab, as the case may be) and just kept going from there. Now I’m going to admit that I went into this drama knowing nothing more about it than it starred Gong Hyo Jin (whom I love) as a psychiatrist and a novelist played by Jo In Sung (whom you might recognize from That Winter, The Wind Blows) so when the first thing that happened this week was having our male lead get stabbed by a crazy man with a fork, I was intrigued. What made things even more interesting was finding out that the crazy fork man is actually Jang Jae Yeol’s brother and it appears that there’s quite a bit of a tiff between these two. Obviously we don’t have all the details of this whole Jang Brother relationship yet but it seems Jang Jae Bum has been imprisoned for murder and he’s claiming that Jae Yeol is actually the one who committed the crime. Whether any of this is true or not is yet to be seen but I think it’s a very interesting start to this story and I’m looking forward to seeing how this tale unfolds.

no way to survive

Adding to the interest of this story is the abundance of interesting and unique characters we’ve already been introduced to. Obviously our male and female leads are quite interesting on their own. Jang Jae Yeol is a novelist with a darker side, writing novels about gruesome murders, smashing cars in a fit of rage, haphazardly ruining other people’s relationships, being blamed for murder… He’s quite the character but then again, so is our female lead, Ji Hye Soo. I have to say, knowing our leading psychiatrist has some psychological issues of her own is an interesting and refreshing take on a character that could have easily been written as a “holier than thou” type of person. To see that she’s flawed and to have to accept her issues is a nice twist and I’m just as excited to see her work through her own issues as I am to see how she helps Jae Yeol with his. Beyond our leads, we have a couple of interesting colleagues of Jae Yeol thrown into the mix (including EXO’s D.O. as the adorable, yet tragic, Han Kang Woo) as well as two of the most interesting roommates, Park Soo Kwang and Jo Dong Min. (And can I just say, I was really happy to see Sung Dong Il as Jo Dong Min, as I absolutely loved him in the Answer Me series. He’s such a great actor and I’m super excited to see what he does with his character this time around.)

friends

If the characters in this story weren’t exciting enough, there’s been quite a bit of action as well. We begin with multiple stabbings, a plagiarism scandal, the betrayal of a best friend, the betrayal of a boyfriend and best friend, an attempted suicide, a crazy person on a rampage, a bar fight, a car smashed, wine tossed in faces and an underlying and electrifying attraction between our leads that leaves us wanting more. Call me crazy but that seems like a pretty good way to kick off a drama…

have some wine

I know I’m already hooked on It’s Okay, That’s Love but I want to know what you think. Did you find these first two episodes interesting enough to bring you back for more or is this one not really your cup of tea? If you are going to be sticking around, do you have any beginnings of an idea of where things are going? What do you think of our lead characters? Do you find them interesting or not so much? What about the rest of the cast? Have you found a favorite yet or is it still too soon to decide? I’d love to know what you’re thinking so be sure to leave me a comment below!

  1. I loved the first two episodes! People are just quirky enough to keep things interesting and sparks are already flying!! I can’t wait for more. It appears that they will tackle some difficult topics, yet due to the crazy housemates, I feel that we are guaranteed enough laughs to break up the intensity. My curiosity is piqued.

This drama and “Marriage, Not Dating” are my currently airing favorites.

    1. I agree, this drama has piqued my interest and I’m looking forward to seeing how they’re going to handle some pretty tough topics. As long as they don’t use people’s mental illnesses as a joke, I think we’re going to be good. There are so many interesting and out-of-the-box characters that I’m interested in learning more about them and there’s a darker underlying plot that has me hooked. I really want to know the story behind the brother in prison and how he got there and if his famous brother is really a murdered. (Wouldn’t that be an interesting twist?) I know we’re only two episodes in but I’m already eager for more!

    1. ABSOLUTELY! It’s refreshingly realistic, the characters are fantastic and the story is compelling. I’m really enjoying this one! You should definitely give it a shot!
