Jae Bum has the new found obsession with Amytal, a truth serum of sorts, that he thinks will be his saving grace against prison. He is completely convinced that if he gives it to his mother and his brother he himself will be saved from prison. His paranoid behavior and obsession with his brother are extremely unnatural, so it’s no surprise that Dong Min chooses to look further into his case and discovers that Jae Yeol is Jae Bum’s younger brother. I think a lot of things about both brothers finally fall into place in Dong Min’s head, however he is not at liberty to tell anyone else since he’s just a doctor treating the older.
I am starting to worry for Jae Yeol as he has more encounters with Kang Woo. While you start off thinking that Kang Woo is just a fan boy of the author, it is becoming more and more clear to me that the boy is just a figment of his imagination. He could be a reflection that Jae Yeol has made of his younger self in order to cope with the chaos that Jae Bum has decided to inflict in his life. There are too many similarities between the boy, such as confessing to a girl just as Jae Yeol starts to have feelings for Hye Soo, and then Kang Woo just disappears into thin air.
Hye Soo and Jae Yeol continue to have a tumultuous relationship. Eventually they will realize that all of the things they see as differences will actually form a complete picture between the two as long as they can learn to trust one another. Dong Min, always being the observer and keeper of the peace, sees the tension between the two and keeps forcing them together for the better. Every step brings them closer together and I really do ship these two.
The roommates were actually brought closer by a tragic turn. Hye Jin, a pregnant friend of Hye Soo, Dong Min, and Soo Kwang, decides that she is going to commit suicide via drowning when the stress of not wanting to take her medication because she is pregnant finally get to her. While Jae Yeol manages to save her, it does lead to Hye Soo having a better understanding of Jae Yeol after she finds him sleeping in a bathroom.
The subsequent kiss they share in a good moment leads to more turmoil between the two. Jae Yeol does ask her to start dating but Hye Soo quickly shuts him down. His repeated attempts, even in front of Dong Min and Soo Kwang, are also shut down. Dong Min follows Hye Soo and basically corners her into hearing exactly what she doesn’t want to admit. She’s afraid of her feelings for Jae Yeol, but it’s not because she thinks of her mother and childhood trauma, but rather because she actually has feelings for him. After a tumultuous moment with Hye Soo’s family, where Hye Soo fights with her mom, Jae Yeol gets a better look into her past as well.
Of course we have to have a cliffhanger! Jae Bum stabs Jae Yeol in the neck with the needle that he stole from Dong Min’s office. This is really not surprising to me at all. Jae Bum is out to kill the man, so it is clear he will not be stopping until he takes him out for good.
