HALLYU ZOMBIE DRAMA REVIEW: Pretty Man Finale: Our Tribute to Dae Shik

Zombie: Being fans of U-KISS (and more specifically, Hoon) it just wouldn’t be right if we ended our review of Pretty Man without doing a little tribute to our favorite little brother, Dae Shik.

Tanya: He’s just adorable… In real life and in character, that is. I appreciate the comic relief he brought to the show through Dae Shik, but also the more serious family moments he helped bring forward. Although he and Bo Tong usually fought, you could tell the love was there. Bo Tong always had her little brother to depend on. adorable

Zombie: They really did have some of the best family chemistry I’ve ever seen in a K-Drama. I know there are lots of families in Drama Land but a lot of them have a very stifling and depressing feel to them which is why I loved Bo Tong’s family so much. There was a lot of squabbling (as there is in any family) but also a lot of genuine love and support, which Bo Tong needed when things got rough.

Tanya: The family dynamic felt very real. We’ve spoken before about admiring Bo Tong’s mother for her no-fluff wisdom without being overly judgmental. I really admire that that seemed to carry over into Dae Shik as well because they were “raised” by the same woman. Always supportive in the end.

Zombie: Brutal honesty and genuine love, it’s a combination you don’t come across much in Drama Land and I was a little surprised to find such depth in such a shallow drama; which is probably why I liked this family so much. They were out-of-place and very needed so it all worked out well in the end.

Tanya: Exactly! With that said, here are some of our favorite Hoon moments, from the funny to the serious. We hope you enjoy them too!

cute hoon

Tanya: We got to hear Hoon sing in this episode in celebration of Bo Tong’s birthday. If there is anything Hoon can do well, singing would be it!

Tanya: Dae Shik: Smartest little brother EVER!

Zombie: Dae Shik’s reaction to gianormous picture of Ma Te in Bo Tong’s room was priceless…

WTF

Tanya: They had him do some of the most random things in this series. I love that his character had the Tae Kwon Do obsession and didn’t lose that identity throughout the series. It also led to a lot of funny scenes. This is the first time we saw him on-screen.

Zombie: According to Dae Shik, a man is all about the muscles!

Tanya: The look on his face is so serious! He’s concerned about Bo Tong, who just ran out of the house with tears in her eyes.

HEY

Zombie: Because everyone sits down to breakfast with weights in their hands…
