HALLYU ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Pretty Man Episodes 5-6 (2/2)

DrunkBoTong

Zombie: So was it just me or were this weeks episodes pretty darn hilarious?

Tanya: I laughed so much it was ridiculous. I think my favorite part was Dae Shik calling Bo Tong and David out. “Are you sure you aren’t just moving in together?” And then Bo Tong flips him, which you can visually see Hoon help UI do because he’s physically larger than she is.
HoonMoveIn

Zombie: Those two are so funny! Seriously though, just about every character in this show is funny. I love that Jang Geun Suk’s facial expressions are out in full force. That was one of the best parts of You’re Beautiful so I’m happy they’re back in Pretty Man.

crazy eyes

Tanya: Not that I don’t like his more serious dramas, but seriously, comedy is Geun Suk’s thing.

Zombie: Which is why, despite my initial doubts, I’m really starting to like this drama. Not only is it funny but the characters are developing nicely, as is the plotline. We’re not being dragged through endless episodes of desperate women clinging to Ma Te. We’re not being forced through endless hours of family drama…it’s a nice switch from some of the other dramas I’ve watched recently.

Tanya: I kind of mentioned that in my post last week. I am really happy that we have a group of unique characters. Yes, they fit some major clichés, but it’s not like you’re sitting there being annoyed because it “just another cliché.”  They are equally amusing and each scene has a purpose in the storyline…. very little filler.

Zombie: Plus, every lesson Ma Te learns is pushing him one step closer to being an intelligent, useful human being. He’s actually learning and growing which means I’m starting to like him. Woo-hoo! A main character I can get behind! It’s a drama addict’s dream come true!
Don'tLookForMe

Tanya: I was surprised that the Fairy actually turned out to be a good person. I thought for sure she was going to add to our villain force, then she goes and helps them sell the socks via Kim In Joong, teaches Ma Te about the button theory, then walks away.

Zombie: I’ve been completely impressed with her, especially when she tells Ma Te the one thing we’ve all known from the beginning…he already knows how to control people’s hearts, he just has to be observant enough to find which button to push.
BribevsGift

Tanya: What about Kim In Joong? She actually turned out to be useful and a little stand-offish. There was no lingering in that lesson. “Oh you want to know? Here.” I think we could all learn that from her though… Giving beforehand is a bribe, after is a gift. Must remember!

Zombie: I liked that about her. She’s direct, informed and intelligent. She doesn’t waste time beating about the bush, she doesn’t take crap from people, she can see past the fake front most people put up and can know, in a second if someone is being genuine or not. She’s someone who could teach Ma Te a lot, if he can get close enough to her to learn.

Tanya: I’m still wondering how Ma Te is going to get through all of these women, especially since there could be more than one lesson to learn from each one. Is that really the end of everything we’re going to see with In Joong? Or will she be around more? Does that mean we’re going to be in a situation where he’s going after more than one woman at a time?

Zombie: The previews for next week make it look like she’s still around which makes me wonder how they’re going to get through all ten of these women. There’s going to have to be some overlap in there somewhere, which could create some serious conflict, which, maybe is what Ma Te needs…a little trouble to make him see the error of his ways and grow up.

Tanya: Am I the only one that thinks we’re going to get to the end and Ma Te will realize that he hasn’t been anything without Bo Tong’s help? I really hope he doesn’t realize his feelings and how much she has helped him in the very LAST episode and we’re left hanging. I would be so disappointed.

Zombie: Oh, that would suck! However, I have a feeling Ma Te is going to realize his feelings sooner than that. I mean he’s already dealing with some pretty strong feelings of jealousy when it comes to Bo Tong. It’s just a matter of time before he realizes those jealous tendencies are actually a sign of affection. In the meantime, I’m going to keep enjoying those jealous moments as they’re some of the funniest in this entire drama!
SockSaleSuccess

Tanya: Speaking of moments, they finally sell the socks! Celebration all around! … And then they decide to make more. I know he has to learn failure, but does it have to be at the price of those damn socks?!

Zombie: I actually groaned and cringed when they decided to make more…Why couldn’t they just leave well enough alone? It took them five episodes to sell those stupid socks and now it looks like they’re going to fail miserably the second time around…those stinking socks just need to go away. FOREVER!
WeddingDream

Tanya: Totally digging Ma Te’s freak out over the burn, then talking about marriage. Bo Tong has to dream about it of course, but subtle hints maybe? I think he may be starting to realize that he likes her already but they haven’t given him that epiphany moment yet.

Zombie: It’s only a matter of time…
