HALLYU ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Pretty Man Episodes 9-10 (1/2)

It’s all competitions, confessions and confusion in this week’s episodes of Pretty Man which means there’s a whole lot to dig into and a few tears to be shed…well, at least on my part anyway…

give me a glance

I knew the day would come when David’s love for Bo Tong, combined with his sweet nature, would leave me heartbroken and I’m sad to say, that day finally came. Oh David! Why must you be so sweet? I cheered, whole-heartedly, when David finally worked up the courage to ask Bo Tong out on Christmas. I cried when he willingly sacrificed that time with Bo Tong so she wouldn’t have to decide which guy she was going to have to disappoint. I whooped for joy when Bo Tong decided it was only right to spend Christmas with David, since he asked her out first. I swooned as David sang his love confession song. I sobbed for David as he told Bo Tong of his tragic past and my heart broke when he said all he needed was a glance from Bo Tong, every now and then, as they made their way down their separate paths in life.

i'll make you laugh

As heartbroken as David left me, I was happy to see Bo Tong at least has enough sense about her to be aware of David’s feelings and not trample all over them in her blind devotion to Ma Te. In fact, I think this is one of the few times (at least that I can remember) where the girl didn’t shoot down the second man’s affections or string him along for her own convenience and/or amusement and for that, I’m really, really glad. David deserves better than that and Bo Tong knows that. What’s even better, I really believe Bo Tong is beginning to question whether or not her devotion to Ma Te is worth all of the heartache she’s been suffering on his account. Why else would she refuse to move into Ma Te’s home when you know only a few episodes ago she would have agreed to Ma Te’s demands without giving it a second thought? Whatever the reason may actually be, I like that Bo Tong is struggling to figure out her feelings for both Ma Te and David as it seems, to me, it shows a level of maturity I really didn’t think she had when this drama began.

i wonder about her

And then there’s Ma Te…who has shown vast improvement in some areas of his life and is still so very immature in others. I like that he’s learning quite a lot from his female “conquests.”  I like that he’s sincerely trying to figure out why he’s so jealous of Bo Tong and David’s relationship. I just wish he’d hurry up and figure out that, despite what he believes, he’s not the bright spot at the center of the universe. I’d really like Ma Te a lot more if he could put aside his selfishness and pride and pour all of that wasted energy into something or someone other than himself. *cough. Bo Tong. cough.*

face-off

Of course, for me, the best part of this week’s episodes was the escalating conflict between David and Ma Te. Not only did this competition between the two give David the push he needed to confess his feelings, it also forced Ma Te to admit he’s starting to develop some sort of feelings for Bo Tong. For a guy who’s seems to have spent his entire life as a player, this is a major step…though I think David took an even bigger step, voluntarily stepping into his role as the young master of MG Group. (Hello unexpected plot twist!) Where things go from here is anyone’s guess but one thing’s certain, this story just got a whole lot more interesting. *Woo-hoo!*
