Tanya’s Say: A Letter of Reflection

Hello dear ZombieMamma readers,

I’m hijacking this website once again simply because I can… and because it needs to be done since I get to see everything that goes into all the work that ZombieMamma does (not only for this site, but also for other sites that she writes for). Also, simply for the fact that I also do all of this myself for my own site, as well as DramaFever and others, so I know that she’s going out of her mind while trying to keep as quiet as possible.

There is a fine line when it comes to all reviews. Seven times out of ten, not everyone will agree with your opinion, but that’s completely all right. You know what’s not all right? Lashing out. All bloggers are more than open to the opinions of their readers as long as you can apply your feedback in a constructive way, without name-calling or other scenarios such as, “You suck. Everyone else should go to this website because I think they’re better.”

Good for you. I’m happy you read a wide range of sites to find a range of opinions. That is a wonder of the internet. You can find fans who love the same things you do and those who do not. I just want to know if you realize how much time and effort bloggers/vloggers put in to their work? The 5 minutes it takes you to scroll through a post took us probably 3-4+ hours to write. We have to watch the episodes, figure out what we want to highlight, research names or actors, writers, directors, write the post out, get screen shots, format and post. Is it hard? Absolutely not. However it is time consuming and takes dedication to decide you are going to stick with a series, even one you do not particularly like.

There is something to be said about having a personal site though. It’s hard to put opinions out there, even with the mask of the internet to protect us. This is the place we can write our own actual opinions that we probably couldn’t if we are covering something for another. We expect that people will not agree. We expect feedback. We love that you talk to us because it drives us to work harder even if you don’t agree because we want to evolve and be better. If you disagree with us, tell us why. You may be able to enlighten us to something we somehow missed along the way and we’ll go back to review.

Honestly, we just ask that you be respectful. If you can’t be respectful, then be prepared for any response you get. Sometimes you won’t hear back from the author, but from other bloggers or fans that love this site and, unlike ZombieMamma, we don’t have to be nice to you. And you don’t get to act surprised by the response you get. If you can’t say something nicely or at least provide constructive criticism in your sometimes-hate-laced comments, please just forego leaving your opinion at all.

L might delete my little rant here because she has no idea I’m writing this, but I just ask everyone to take a breath. At the end of the day, it’s just a TV show. I know, shocking right?! If you have anything to say in response, feel free to bombard me rather than the ZombieMamma. I will get the comments here or you can attack my site and Twitter.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

  1. I just want to cheer up my blogger buddy, Zombie Mamma. There will be good days and bad days. Everyone will have an opinion, but look at everything in a positive light so that you can be a better person and perhaps laugh about it later. I hope this experience does not deter you from blogging more because blogging is what makes you happy. I will always admire your dedication and efforts towards your work.

    1. Thank you for your lovely, encouraging words my friend! They mean a lot to me. Yes, we all have good days and bad, it’s just nice to know that I have amazing friends who stand beside me and cheer me on. Have no fear, I have no intention of letting a bad and/or negative experience deter me from doing something I truly love. This wasn’t the first time I’ve been called names for voicing an unpopular opinion and I’m sure it won’t be the last. (Not that I go looking for disagreements, it’s simply something that’s bound to happen, now and then.) As difficult as it may be to deal with at times, it’s infinitely easier knowing that I have amazing friends who rally beside me and remind me that “this too shall pass.” Again, thank you! 🙂

      1. To me, it just means your getting more popular to even have people criticize you. I’m pretty much echoing myself on my blog, but that’s expected.

  2. That was fully awesome, Tanya. And ZM–keep fighting the good fight against the trolls. I personally like to believe that trolls are simply people who feel that the anonymity of the internet means they can abandon this pretense of civility that they were socially forced to put up by some person in their life, and that a comment attacking a totally well-intentioned blogger (and sadly, particularly a woman, I think) is their chance to assert some type of evil into a safe place that someone has created for themselves and others who also just wanted a good place to talk. Like Tanya said, “we don’t have to be nice to you [the trolls].” Besides, the trolls are a-holes that comment and leave. Buddies like Tanya and yours truly will always stick by you ZombieMamma!
