The Zebussie Drama Review: Iron Man Episodes 5-6 (2/2)

Drama Debussie: I’ve officially started calling Wednesdays and Thursdays Iron Man Days. That’s a good sign, right?

Zombie: I’m pretty sure that’s a VERY good sign! I swear this drama gets better with every episode!

Drama Debussie: Granted, I feel like a lot was being thrown at us this week, but it’s not the first time that’s happened in this show’s expansive six episodes. There are two things I don’t like thrown at my face: plotlines and balls. The bouncy kind!! I mean, where the hell do we even start?

Blade.Man.E05.140924.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[08-24-27]

Zombie: Let’s start where we left off last week, with Se Dong becoming the stand-in for Tae Hee. I know we’ve both been worried about her becoming just a Tae Hee substitute for Hong Bin and I think that’s still justified. I know Hong Bin has moments when he sees her as herself and it’s obvious he’s falling for her in those moments but he has just as many moments where he sees her as Tae Hee as well. At least in those moments he feels unsettled, which has me thinking he really is falling for Se Dong because she’s making an impression on him as herself and not as Tae Hee reincarnated.

Drama Debussie: I do appreciate when he fights all the Tae Hee feels Se Dong gives him. I don’t think anyone could ever replace Tae Hee in his heart and I pity the fool that would try. He doesn’t want anyone to remind him of Tae Hee. There’s a lot of guilt that Hong Bin has when it comes to her, even more so after all the revelations this week. The last thing he wants is to be reminded of her by someone he is slowly finding himself not only attracted to, but relying on pretty heavily. He’s very Hugh Grant in Two Weeks Notice to Se Dong’s Sandra Bullock. He relies on her even if he doesn’t realize it.

Zombie: He really does and I have a feeling that dependency is only going to grow, as the story progresses. I can easily see Se Dong uncovering Hong Bin’s secret and then choosing to love him, despite the “monster” he becomes, which eventually leads to his healing but that’s just my guess. At this point all I can say with certainty is that Se Dong is slowly working her way into Hong Bin’s heart, not as Tae Hee’s replacement, but as a woman worthy of being loved. I think the fact that Se Dong knows all about Tae Hee and went out of her way to make sure Hong Bin has those few mementos of her around, only makes him like her more. He knows Se Dong isn’t there to replace his lost love but to help him find a way to live on without her.

Drama Debussie: So true. Seems Hong Bin isn’t the only one that’s understandably falling for Se Dong. The rule has pretty much become that if you’re somehow associated with Hong Bin you will love Se Dong. Chang and Hong Joo are all about Se Dong and something tells me this unseen love child from Madame Yoon and Hong Bin’s father is somehow going to fall for her as well. Which, by the way, WHAT?!

Blade.Man.E05.140924.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[08-57-45]

Zombie: Right!?! I totally didn’t see that one coming! I mean I figured Madame Yoon had something on Hong Bin’s father to have the guts to just call him up one day but this? This wasn’t what I was expecting! I do have to say, I’m picking up some pretty weird vibes from Madame Yoon and she’s kinda starting to freak me out. I’m not sure she’s at the level of creepy that Hong Bin’s mother is but she’s certainly got me wondering what her true motives are. I know she’s after the house for her son but I think there’s more she wants than just a house. Whatever it is, I’d just give it to her and run as far away as I possibly could. That woman is just plain creepy.

Drama Debussie: She brought back memories of Baek Mi Nyeo from Hotel King. I remember thinking, “Oh jeez. Is she going to be Lee Dong Wook’s mother? Can he not have one sane mother this year?!” Madame Yoon is definitely creepy in a Little Mermaid Ursula kind of way. She’s just sitting there waiting for everyone to come to her so she can take advantage of them. Huge opportunist in a uniform that’s way too long. Thank goodness Hong Bin has Secretary Jo who I love more and more each week.

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-10-09]

Zombie: Isn’t he just the sweetest guy ever? He’s so worried about Hong Bin and he feels so responsible for Hong Bin’s condition that he’s dedicated his life to taking care of the man who saved his little sister. He’s such a sweetheart! Of course all of his worrying about being the cause of Hong Bin’s condition is more than a little silly but he’s a simply guy and to him it makes sense so he’s doing what he can to do right by Hong Bin and I just love that. Hong Bin needs a loyal friend and he couldn’t have found a better one than Secretary Jo.

Drama Debussie: I love how they quickly mentioned that Hong Bin donated bone marrow to Jo’s sister. It was everything to Secretary Jo, no big deal to him. He was too preoccupied with wanting to know how long he had been turning into a “monster” I guess. I’m so glad we finally got that out of the way. I’m excited to see what happens next as he explores his triggers and abilities. So far it seems he’s going to have a lot of fun with it, but we all know that doesn’t last long in the dramaverse or in the superhero universe. What do they say? With great power comes…

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-28-08]

Zombie: All kinds of fun times climbing glass buildings with your super blades… Okay, that’s not it but the idea of Hong Bin taking on any great responsibilities right now is kinda laughable. I don’t see him having shouldered any real responsibility in his entire life but now that he’s got Chang and Se Dong around, maybe his perspective on things will change and he’ll take up a worthy cause. I know at the moment he’s trying to uncover his father’s dealings with Tae Hee but you can’t expect that to carry him to his superhero greatness because she’s already gone. There’s nothing to save there but a memory. However, now that Madame Yoon has started messing with both Chang and Se Dong, things might change. At least I hope they do. Otherwise Hong Bin’s going to tear up most of Seoul just because he can and then what happens? This story has to go somewhere and we can’t leave our hero as a spoiled baby forever. He needs to grow up and become the man he was destined to be, at least that’s the path most superheroes take. I guess, who’s to say Hong Bin is really a superhero? Maybe he’s just a man with a broken heart who has a funny way of showing he’s hurt. Perhaps some serious therapy sessions would do him some good…

Drama Debussie: Guess it all depends on what your definition of a superhero is. The good thing is that it seems there’s enough mystery involving Madame Yoon and Hong Bin’s father that it will keep us entertained for a while. Seriously, what is the deal with them?

Zombie: All I can think about when those two are together is You’re the Best Lee Soon Shin, they were quite the pair in that drama and now they’re back, stirring up all kinds of trouble here as well. I swear, those two!

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-25-27]

Drama Debussie: Watching Madame Yoon send Chang alone to Hong Bin’s father’s black car in the pouring rain looking scared of his mind…it was like the beginning of some horror film or an episode of 20/20. I’m pretty sure Hong Bin’s father thinks he’s largely misunderstood by all the people around him but I don’t think he’s misunderstood at all. No one sees themselves as the villain and I don’t think he’s an exception.

Zombie: He may not be an exception but I’m pretty sure Madame Yoon is. I think she knows full well she’s stirring up trouble and she doesn’t care, as long as she gets what she wants. She’s greedy and ruthless and that makes her scary because she’s not afraid to do whatever it takes to get what she wants from anyone. If she has to sacrifice an innocent boy to do it, so be it. Not that I really think handing Chang over to Jang Won is the worst thing in the world but if he was the cause of Hong Bin’s condition then maybe it really is that bad. I’d hate to see Chang develop the same sort of complex Hong Bin has, later on in life, just because he spent time with Jang Won. Then again, maybe it’s not Hong Bin’s father that’s to blame for all of this. I still say there’s something terribly wrong with his mother… Maybe she’s to blame.

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-29-28]

Drama Debussie: Lack of affection is definitely something Hong Bin is dealing with. I’m going to go ahead and blindly blame his mother for that one. The last thing I want for Chang is to be in a house where he could be raised by the same parents that brought up Hong Bin. Not that I don’t love him, but there seems to be a dark cloud over this family that’s being passed on.

Zombie: It’s sad but true. Just look at Hong Joo. He’s such a sad boy and it’s so obvious he lacks affection. I’m not sure anyone in his life knows how to show any sort of warmth which is probably why he’s so drawn to Se Dong. She’s the ray of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy world and he needs her light in his life just as much as Hong Bin and Chang. Too bad he totally blew his chances with Se Dong when he popped out of nowhere and asked her out. Umm… She didn’t even know who he was! Why would she say yes?

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-00-55]

Drama Debussie: He was also still in his uniform. His high school uniform! I know the trend is older women with younger men but…no. Nice try. She’s probably more looking for someone that works in an office like the one she works in sometimes with ADORABLE flower guys. I love how the writer basically took everything away from the guys so that they’ll be forced to work on a new game. Does this mean we’ll get more scenes with the dwarves? PLEASE SAY YES!

Zombie: I’m gonna go with yes. They’re just too adorable to toss to the wayside! Besides, they’re going to have to stick around so we can watch them all turn green with envy when Se Dong starts falling for Hong Bin. She’s going to break so many hearts when that happens… and all the women in that office rejoiced!

Blade.Man.E06.140925.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[10-04-13]

Drama Debussie: I’m so ready for the romance to officially start. Monuments will crumble, men will cry…. When I say men, I’m also including Chang. We all know he likes he to cry. Something he didn’t really do this week. I also do have to applaud this show for all of the Wookie shirtless scenes they’ve continually given us. Thank the drama gods for all of that!

Zombie: Here, here! Now if we can get through the rest of this drama without Chang breaking down every five seconds, I’ll be so flipping happy! Not as happy as I’ll be when Se Dong and Hong Bin finally get their act together and realize they’re meant for each other but still, pretty darn close! Of course before that happens, I think Se Dong is going to have to see Hong Bin at his worst. We already know she’s the type of person who has to help those in need and who needs more help than a man with blades growing out of his body? He’s going to be too irresistible to her and we all know what that means… I look forward to the moment when Se Dong realizes she loves Hong Bin as much as he loves her. I’m also looking forward to the moment when Hong Bin realizes he can love someone other than Tae Hee. Oh, there’s just so much to look forward to! (Which is probably why I’m loving this drama…)
