The Zebussie Drama Review: Iron Man Episodes 10-11 (2/2)

Zombie: There’s no longer any point in me saying “I LOVE THIS DRAMA” because, well, we’ve already firmly established that, so i’m just gonna dive right in. This week had a lot of ups and downs, with Hong Bin trying to come to grips with who and what he is and trying to decide how to keep those few people in his life that he actually cares about, safe. It makes sense that he’s worried about hurting Se Dong and Chang because he really did put Se Dong in the hospital and I can appreciate his struggle because it means he’s trying to do the right thing.

Drama Debussie: As much as I adore this show as well, I cringed when the inevitable happened this week. We all knew there was going to be a moment in where Hong Bin’s attempt to protect Se Dong would backfire and he would end up hurting her. Granted, it doesn’t help that she keeps stepping in whenever someone is in danger even if they don’t deserve it! I love you, Se Dong, but there are two things you have to stop doing: 1) being a human shield for others and 2) breaking up with Hong Bin all the time. Seriously, stop that!

 Blade.Man.E10.141015.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-35-19]

Zombie: Yes please! Just because things get tough once in a while or you feel you’re being a burden, please stop with the breaking up all the time! If Se Dong really knew how much Hong Bin needed her, I’m sure she wouldn’t be so quick to call it quits but even so, she really needs to knock that off. She’s better than that. She’s a tough cookie, she’s been able to handle a lot so why in the world does she keep trying to break up with Hong Bin? My theory is she doesn’t think she deserves him and she’s more comfortable living without him than trying to accept the fact that someone she sees as “too good” could actually love her.

DD: It goes back to what we talked about last week in where we wondered whether she believed she deserved love because of the guilt she feels from her mother’s death. Hong Bin is certainly more invested in their romance than she is (so much so that he practically shouted it from the rooftops/in front of all of his gossiping employees), but it seems this is simply due to the wall she seems to have when it comes to him. Seung Hwan advised Hong Bin to not let her pity him and I don’t think that’s possible so there has to be some other reason she’s so hesitant.

 Blade.Man.E11.141016.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-51-08]

Zombie: Seung Hwan did say that Se Dong felt responsible for both of her parents’ death and that she’s afraid that anyone she loves will end up getting hurt. I think it would be great if Se Dong could realize that Hong Bin has already been hurt so much by other people, that there’s no way she could hurt him any more (unless she breaks up with him). Again, if she only knew how much good she’s done for Hong Bin, she wouldn’t be constantly trying to push him away. This is one of those times where I wish Hong Bin would open up a bit at let Se Dong see just how much she means to him. He doesn’t have to pour his heart out but it would be nice if he could at least let her know that her presence at his side is doing so much more than she could ever imagine. Of course that would require communication and sadly, that’s just not something characters in Drama Land excell at.

DD: Thing is, I feel like Hong Bin has been pretty upfront with his feelings for her. The problem is that because his attempts at showing his affections are usually so elaborate and loud they can easily been seen as disingenuine, at least in Se Dong’s eyes they can be. The good thing that is that he’s really good at adjusting to Se Dong’s preferences when it comes to what methods of affection she’s comfortable with. He’s willing to do that work because she makes him a better man. Although, you’re right in that communication is never a strength of the characters in the wonderful world of dramas. I’m sure there will be some random reason they will be torn apart and since Se Dong has hit her breaking up quota I can only assume Hong Bin will be responsible for the next break up. Of course that may not be a bad thing. He needs time to control his abilities and the women in the Joo family are still running amok. I still ask you, what is the deal with Madam Yoon?!

 Blade.Man.E10.141015.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-58-42]

Zombie: I wish I could figure her out but I’m totally stumped! She’s been a part of Hong Bin’s life for a long time but where does she fit in within the Joo family dynamic? She’s had a son with Jang Won, she’s been Hong Bin’s caretaker (at least when he was a kid), now she’s the manager of his house but even with all of this, I can’t figure out where she fits in. She seems to still have feelings for Jang Won but where are those feelings going to take her? Is she out for revenge? Personal gain? I really don’t know! I do know that I don’t trust her and I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned out super nasty before the end but at the same time, she’s really good at keeping Hong Joo’s mom in check and that makes her vital simply because no one else seems to be able to keep that crazy woman under control! Even Hong Joo was scared his mom was going to run off and kill someone. Seriously! What is that woman’s deal? She’s completely psycho!

DD: That longing look she gave Jang Won was creepy yet told us so much in that fleeting moment. I really wish we could just get to their whole story because the suspense is killing me! Seung Hwan may not be the only one on this show with a one-sided love. Speaking of Seung Hwan, who would have thought he and Se Dong actually had a relationship? Although, if one of the parties are simply dating the other one out of pity can it really be considered a relationship? I don’t think so and I’m seriously wondering if the same thing happened with Jang Won and Madam Yoon in where she’s determined to stay close to him even if they didn’t work out. Which is not creepy at all by the way.

 Blade.Man.E11.141016.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-42-11]

Zombie: Haha. I’m really so confused by Jang Won and Madame Yoon’s relationship. No matter how you look at it, the fact that they’re still so involved in each other’s lives is just weird. There’s got to be something there, keeping these two together and until we figure out what it is, I’m just going to have to deal with constantly feeling unsettled whenever they’re around. As for Seung Hwan and Se Dong… I don’t really consider their dating once upon a time, a relationship. If you’re going out with a guy because you pity him, you’re not doing him any favors and Seung Hwan at least had the brains to figure that one out. I’m happy the two have been able to keep their nearly lifelong friendship intact but I’m more happy that Seung Hwan seems to have finally let go of his dream to keep Se Dong as his own. He had his chance, he blew it and now he can see that Se Dong is happy with Hong Bin. The fact that Seung Hwan is trying to help Hong Bin understand Se Dong proves that Seung Hwan has finally resigned himself to the place of best friend and I applaud him for that.

 Blade.Man.E11.141016.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[23-30-26]

DD: I agree! Bravo, Seung Hwan. Bravo! I also appreciate that they were able to keep their friendship intact because it’s so important to who they both are. Losing their friendship would be detrimental to both of them and I’m glad they knew that. It seems Se Dong is pretty good with making the best of odd situations. First, her friendship-turned-dating-friendship again situation with Seung Hwan and now her oddly calm reaction to seeing Hong Bin’s supernatural abilities. I love that she didn’t start screaming the moment she realized something strange was going on, but she’s just okay with, well, everything! It’s a little too…Twilight for me but without the werewolves (thank the drama gods for that). Can we blame her calm reaction on the power of love?

Zombie: I think that might be part of it but also, Se Dong is just one of those people who can go with things as they come. I mean she took on the role of Tae Hee the first time she met Chang’s grandparents without even blinking an eye. If she can do that, I think she can handle Hong Bin’s superpowers. It seemed to me she was almost giddy over the idea of her boyfriend being a superhero. Otherwise, how do you explain her spazzing the night after, as she went over and over that scene in her head? I think she likes the idea of Hong Bin being more than what he seems and who could blame her? Haven’t we all dreamt of dating a superhero at least once in our lives? (Or is that just me?)

 Blade.Man.E11.141016.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-37-10]

DD: Oh, I’ve certainly had the superhero fantasy. Maybe too explicit to go into now but it’s certainly happened. I just can’t guarantee I would react as well as she did. No one even freaked out when word got out he was amazing in more ways than one. Even Chang was announcing to the neighborhood that his dad was strong! Further proof that Hong Bin is surrounded by the best people around.

Zombie: Indeed! I’m so happy Hong Bin has found himself surrounded by people who love him while he’s dealing with so much. This whole superpowers thing could have easily taken a turn for the worse, had he not had Se Dong and Chang around to keep him balanced and well grounded. Now if only we could get rid of all the nasty people in his life, that would make things a whole lot easier! Oh, and before I forget… What’s up with that letter Hong Joo wrote Hong Bin? Is Tae Hee really still alive? I’m really hoping not but what if she is? Augh! The possibilities of where things could go if that were the case… It makes me cringe!

 Blade.Man.E10.141015.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-03-20]

DD: I’ll be honest, I was a little annoyed with that letter. Hong Bin and Hong Joo don’t spend much time together but they’ve certainly spent enough time with each other for Hong Joo to mention he has information about his first love! All that headache to find the letter for it to end up in Madam Yoon’s hands for her to burn it! Argghh! I can only assume this will ensure Hong Joo will stay in Korea a little longer so that he can he finally reveal what he knows. Of course this would require communication and we already discussed how difficult that can be in the dramaverse.

Zombie: Am I bad if I hope Hong Joo never brings the topic up and Hong Bin lives the rest of his life convinced that Tae Hee has passed away? After all he’s been through and after finally saying his goodbyes and letting her go, I’d really hate to see Tae Hee pop up out of nowhere and bring with her a whole new world of pain for Hong Bin. He’s been through so much already, he needs to stay on this path of healing and he can’t do that if he can’t move on.

Blade.Man.E10.141015.HDTV.H264.720p-LIMO[22-43-33]

DD: You’re not bad at all and certainly not bad for having that sentiment. Last thing I would want is to upset the healing that has started, but there’s still a big piece of the puzzle that is missing. While I’m sure he would be fine going on without knowing the whole truth seeing that he has enough to move on, the mystery would always find some way to rear its ugly head. I just hope this all gets resolved so that Hong Bin and Se Dong can have pretty supernatural babies. I can’t be only one that needs this to happen.

Zombie: Nope! I think that would be the perfect way to end this story. I’m just afraid we still have a whole lot of crazy to get through before we get there!

So tell us, what did you think of these two episodes of Iron Man? Are you as tired of Se Dong’s constant breaking up with Hong Bin as we are? Do you think there’s a reason why she keeps trying to leave him? What did you think of Seung Hwan’s conversation with Hong Bin? Has Seung Hwan really given up on Se Dong or is he maybe just biding his time? Any thoughts on Madame Yoon? How about this letter of Hong Joo’s? The possibility of Tae Hee being alive seems to be very real all of a sudden. What will this mean for Hong Bin, Chang and Se Dong? As always, we’d love to know what you’re thinking so be sure to leave us a comment below!
