The Zebussie Drama Review: Iron Man Episodes 3-4 (1/2)

Sitting down to watch a new episode of Iron Manyou’re guaranteed to never suffer through a dull moment as there’s such a great combination of drama and humor, with just enough intrigue thrown in there to keep you coming back for more, that two weeks in, I find myself completely hooked.

Picking up where we left off last week, Hong Bin’s attempt to learn anything about Jae Hee from Chang is completely foiled by the fact that Hong Bin can’t control his temper. I can’t understand why he thinks yelling at that poor kid is going to make him suddenly open up but Hong Bin’s temper and constant need to yell really reminds me of the Beast. All he needs now is some magically blooming rose stashed away somewhere and we’re set! Seriously though, Hong Bin would do well to realize yelling at Chang isn’t going to get him anywhere and he’d better start easing up a bit, especially now that it seems there’s more Hong Bin needs to know than the whereabouts of his past love. I’m not really sure what’s up with Chang seeing a monster, as I initially assumed it was Hong Bin that he’d seen, but after squeezing a bit of an explanation from Chang, I’m convinced there’s something else out there and if I had to guess what it was, I’d say it was Hong Bin’s mother.

creepy mom

Please tell me I’m not the only one picking up crazy vibes from that woman! I know we only saw her for a couple of minutes but that was more than enough to give me the heebie-jeebies! Seriously! That woman is beyond scary and I have to give mad props to Joo Jang Won for sticking with her as long as he has. Either that man is made of tougher stuff that he lets on or he’s just terrified to leave his wife, either way, I suddenly find myself pitying him, just a little. I wish I knew what it was about Hong Bin’s mother that scared me so much but I can’t exactly put my finger on it. At this point, all I can do is guess and all I’ve come up with so far, is this woman is the reason Hong Bin is the way he is. Does this mean his mom is some sort of supernatural being? I’m not really sure. I don’t think we have enough information about Hong Bin yet to make that kind of assumption but I’m fairly certain that, even if Hong Bin’s condition is merely a physical representation of his broken heart and the walls he’s built around himself to keep others out, his mother still played a big part in driving him that far.

The good news is, things are progressing with Se Dong surprisingly well and I have no doubt she’s going to play a big part in helping Hong Bin return to normal. (Though at this point, I’m not really sure what “normal” is, at least when it comes to Hong Bin…) Until then, I hope we get to spend a whole lot more time watching him make a complete idiot of himself every time he thinks of Se Dong because those moments are fantastic! I love that Hong Bin is finding himself inexplicably drawn to Se Dong and not just because she occasionally smells like Tae Hee. I think it’s the combination of her spunk and tenderheartedness that he find attractive. She’s strong enough to refuse to take any of his crap yet kind enough to take on the role of a dead daughter, just so an ailing mother can experience the joy of a homecoming that will never happen. If this level of amazingness doesn’t attract Hong Bin, I don’t know what will.

Of course if Hong Bin decides he’s not really interested in Se Dong, there’s a whole line of other men who are, including his little brother. As adorable as Hong Joo is, smitten with Se Dong, I really hope this doesn’t turn into a whole Lie to Me ordeal because that would suck. Watching brothers fight over the same girl just isn’t my cup of tea so here’s hoping Hong Joo gets over Se Dong sooner, rather than later. Though now that I think about it… If Hong Joo’s admiration of Se Dong could be what pushes Hong Bin towards Se Dong, that might not be such a bad thing. Not that dating a girl just to spite your younger brother is a good thing… I’m just not opposed to much if it means bringing our OTP together.

So tell me, now that we’ve started to settle into this drama and the crazy of the first two episodes has given way to a more definite and focused direction, where do you see things going? How do you see things playing out between Hong Bin and Se Dong? Will this admiration of Hong Joo’s play into Hong Bin’s decision to pursue Se Dong? What about the relationship between Hong Bin and Chang? Will these two ever find a way to have a normal father-son relationship? What do you think of Hong Bin’s mother? Is she really that scary or am I completely over-reacting? As always, I’d love to know your thoughts so be sure to leave me a comment below!

  1. Nice Review, Watching the first episode now

I hope they end up surprising us about the whole Son/Father relationship since i have been caught up in that.

You are not over-reacting, I could never be in the same room without panic attacks lol

  2. Haha i wasn’t expecting you to be afraid of her also lol
You captured the best screenshot of her and i can’t even look at it lol

Will this admiration of Hong Joo’s play into Hong Bin’s decision to pursue Se Dong?
I sure hope so unless they throw in a swerve (Is what i am hoping for)

    1. Haha. She is terrifying, isn’t she? As for the brothers, I’m all for anything that pushes Hong Bin towards Se Dong, I just hope it’s not out of spite. Hong Bin hasn’t been exceptionally kind to his little brother up to this point and I’d hate to see him pursuing Se Dong just because she’s the object of Hong Joo’s desire. Se Dong deserves more than that.
