TUNE OF THE WEEK: DAY6 “If We Meet Again”

Last week DAY6 dropped a stellar MV on the world as they prepare for their official Japanese debut and quite honestly, I’ve been shaken to my very core. This single has become life and death and everything in between. It’s absolutely everything I ever could have hoped for and so much more! Which is why, even though more than a week has passed since it’s release, I’ve decided to feature “If We Meet Again” as this week’s “Tune.”

It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE fan of DAY6. I fell in love with their music the second they debuted and I’ve been devoted to them ever since. Their music speaks to me on a much deeper level than most, both lyrically and musically. I know I sound so cheesy saying all of this but it’s true! As one who grew up on rock and roll, it’s the music I have embedded deep within my soul. As such, it’s no surprise DAY6 has found a way to touch my heart in ways others can’t. They have an uncanny ability to remind me exactly where my heart lies and I love them for that!

With the release of “If ~また逢えたら~” (If We Meet Again), DAY6 has reminded me, once again, why I’ve fallen so hard for these guys. The song itself is enough to make my heart pound its way out of my chest. Jae’s dulcet tones kick off the track with a hint of sorrow so profound, it makes my heart ache, while Wonpil’s honey-coated high notes offset that pain with just the right touch of sweetness. Of course it’s Sungjin’s husky takeover on the chorus, accompanied by Young K’s powerful vocals, which really has me swooning. (I swear, I could do nothing but listen to Sungjin’s growly voice for the rest of forever and be perfectly happy.)

As for the MV itself, it’s every bit as perfect as you could ever want a MV to be but, as is true of every DAY6 MV, you don’t really need it to appreciate the beauty of this track. It’s just a pretty package used to deliver a much more precious gift. That’s not to say I don’t love looking at the pretty, it’s just that the music itself is what first drew me to this incredibly talented group of musicians and it’s the music which keeps me coming back for more. The fact they can produce an endless number of perfectly wonderful MVs is just one of the many perks of being a MyDAY.

Dropping this pre-debut track ahead of their March 14 debut is a stroke of cruel genius. Having fallen hard for this single, I’m now dying for the release of the rest of this album. The fact that I have to wait another month before I get to enjoy this next DAY6 offering is painful, to say the least. I suppose this is where that whole “absence makes the heart grow fonder thing” comes into play. Having this album absent from my life will only make its presence that much sweeter. The only problem is, this is a Japanese release which means getting my hands on it is going to be so much harder than it should be. (Pardon me while I go have an emotional meltdown in the corner…)

All sobbing aside, I’m super freaking happy DAY6 is making their Japanese debut. Not only does this mean I’ll have new music to add to my collection but it also means more people will be able to see, hear and appreciate these guys. As a fan that makes me so happy! Now I just have to find a way to pass the time between now and March 14. Somehow, I don’t think that will be a problem…
