TUNE OF THE WEEK: EXO “Monster”

monster

I know I’m not going to surprise anyone with my choice for this week’s “Tune” but that’s okay because it’s EX-flipping-O! I think that pretty much all the reason anyone needs to break into a fangirl squee-fest. Not that that’s what I’ll be doing in this post… *laughs uncontrollably*

Chen 1Last week, when EXO first started teasing us over their upcoming comeback, I kinda had a mini-fangirl meltdown, which was something of a first for me. (At least when it comes to EXO.) Sure, I’ve been a fan of them for ages but not to the point where their comebacks send me into fits and feel like I’m dying as I watch their new MV for the first time. However, since seeing these boys in person this past February, I’ve found a whole new appreciation for the group and well… Here I sit, months later, wondering just what the heck this stinking group has done to me!

Lay 1Needless to say, I’m very much in love with EXO and the music they’ve brought us with this comeback. Releasing their 3rd full-length album, EX’ACT, just yesterday, EXO has already broken records for album sales and even managed to achieve an all-kill almost immediately after “Monster” was released. With so much hype over this album and the MVs it’s brought us, EXO has definitely made an impression with this comeback and for good reason.

Both “Lucky One” and “Monster” are solid tracks, and both MVs are highly entertaining. (Though for entirely different reasons.) I love that EXO’s super powers returned in the “Lucky One” MV, as it feels like ages since the boys last played on their supernatural abilities. At the same time, I find it hilarious that the boys chose to use these powers, not so much to escape the insufferable maze they always find themselves stuck in, but to create truly useful things, like glasses of water and flowers… Because that’s o helpful when you’re being chased through a maze by a bunch of crazy chicks who are trying to capture you so they can dissect you in a lab. *giggles* I think the best part thing about the “Lucky One” MV is the fact that we now have proof Kai’s dancing is lethal. As in, you watch him dance and you head explodes… *laughs uncontrollably* Thinking back to the concert, I can say that’s pretty darn accurate!

Xiumin 1As hard as I try, I can’t take the “Lucky One” MV seriously, which is why I’m so darn happy we also have “Monster.” Out of the two, it’s “Monster” that stirs my heart and makes my inner fangirl squeal with delight. There’s just something about darker concepts that gets to me every. stinking. time. and no matter how hard I try to resist, I fall for the charms of those darn bad boys who come “creeping, creeping” into my heart.

Sehun 1I wish I could pinpoint what it is, exactly, about “Monster” that makes me love is as much as I do, but I can’t. I’m sure a big part of it is the fact that the lyrics kinda make my heart stop but I suppose it could also be because the entire song feels balanced to me. There’s no one member who sticks out, or seems to be hogging the spotlight which, if you ask me, is exactly what an EXO track should be. Each member is so incredibly talented, it seems a shame to have some overshadowed by others. With “Monster” I feel like that’s not a problem. Instead, I feel like I get a chance to squee over each member equally and I flipping love that!

Kai 1I could probably squee for ages about all the little things I love about the “Monster” MV but I’ll spare you from that insanity. Instead I’ll ask you what you thought of EXO’s comeback. Are you a fan of “Lucky One” and/or “Monster” or are there other tracks on the album you like more? What did you think of the MVs? Which is your favorite? You know I always love hearing from you so be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
