It’s been about a million years since I last did a TOTW post. I honestly didn’t think I’d ever bring the segment back. But with so much great music out there it just didn’t seem right, letting them all pass by without so much as a squee or a sigh. So here I sit, ready to resurrect my old friend, with GOT7’s newest track, “Never Ever.”
It seems a bit ironic making GOT7’s “Never Ever” the track I use to bring back my Tunes of the Week. While the song may breathe new life into this forgotten segment, it has taken my breath away completely. And no, I’m not exaggerating. Just hearing Yugyeom take that first breath makes my heart stop and those opening lines of his… OH DEAR SWEET BUTTERED TOAST! That boy! That voice! I can’t take it! It’s too much perfection at once! Just one word takes my breath away! Never, in all my days as an ahgase, have I been so overwhelmed by emotions. Sure, I’ve fangirled over GOT7 so hard I’ve cried (which usually happens when I’m watching Yugyeom dance in person) but never have I been so swept away by a single track that I felt like my heart was going to explode the instant it started playing.
I wish I could pinpoint what, exactly, it is about “Never Ever” that I love so much but no matter how hard I try, I just can’t figure it out. There is no specific reason, other than the entire song is a stroke of musical genius. It’s catchy enough to grab your attention, it’s emotional enough to make your heart ache, and the replay-ability is through the roof! I could listen to this song a thousand times over and never be sick of it. (And believe me, I have.)
Of course we all know that any song from GOT7 is going to come with a great MV and killer choreography and “Never Ever” doesn’t disappoint. The visuals in the MV are absolutely perfect, the boys are as stunning as ever. I can’t tell you how many times I squealed and squeed and screeched and sobbed the first time I watched this video. (Who am I kidding? We all know it’s more like every time I watch this video.) All I can say is, there’s a very good reason why I don’t do reaction videos. (Hey, a zombie has to keep some sense of dignity, doesn’t she?) Seeing “Never Ever” performed live only further proves how perfect this choreo is. Ugh! Those darn shoulders! When the heck did shoulders become so lethal!?! *sobs*
I should probably stop gushing now and go try to do something a bit more productive with my life. Of course if you felt like picking up where I’ve left off, you totally could.
