TUNE OF THE WEEK: Lee Dong Woo “Fly With You”

I’m not sure what’s with the trend lately for K-artists to release swing-era inspired tunes but I LOVE IT! That being said, it only makes sense to make Lee Dong Woo’s “Fly With You” my tune of the week.

1Hooking you from the very beginning with Lee Dong Woo’s alluring vocals, “Fly With You” draws you further in with its jazzy bass line and swinging beat. Once again, SM Entertainment has delivered a tune so heavily inspired by the music of the 1920s and ’30s that, with very little imagination, you can see yourself listening to “Fly With You” as you sip a cocktail at the local speakeasy. Seriously, just listening to “Fly With You” makes me want to put on a flapper dress and go dancing (though that may just be because I’m always looking for an excuse to wear a flapper dress).

5If you’re not familiar with Lee Dong Woo as a solo artist, you might remember him from his days as a member of SM’s Tin Tin Five back in 1994. It’s been a long time coming but if “Fly With You” is any indicator of the caliber of the work put into Lee Dong Woo’s latest album, ‘Smile’ Turning to Jazz, it’s a project that’s definitely been worth the wait.

So what do you think of “Fly With You?” Do you like this K-Pop swing trend or would you rather hear something a bit more modern? I love to talk K-Pop so be sure to share your thoughts in the comments below! (And yes, that is EXO at the beginning of the MV, I just didn’t say anything because I wanted as much attention going to Lee Dong Woo as possible because, seriously, he deserves it.)
