This week’s tune won my heart the second I first gave it a listen and has become a daily staple in my crazy zombie life. Loving it as much as I do, I just couldn’t pass up on a chance to share my new love with you.
I told you a week or so ago, that I was super ridiculously excited about Zico’s upcoming solo release and now, it would seem, my excitement was well-founded. “She’s a Baby” is the perfect mix of pop, lighthearted jazz, laced with a touch of scat, and fun. I swear, I’m transported to heaven every time this song plays and no, it’s not just because I get to list to Zico sing for 3 minutes. (Though that is a nice perk!) It really is, hands-down, my favorite spring release to date, and honestly, I don’t see it losing that title anytime soon.
Since its release, last Thursday, “She’s a Baby” has become a staple in my morning routine. It’s the song I’ve started playing as I snuggle myself into my favorite corner of the couch, with my warm cup of coffee, and take a moment to just breathe, as a cool spring breeze gently whispers its daily hello through the open windows. *siiiiigggggghhhh* It’s my favorite way to start the day and after such a long, stressful, sickness-filled winter, I’ve come to appreciate moments as peaceful and perfect as these. It seems only fitting that one of my most favorite artists would be a part of these moments of much-needed restoration.
As perfect as “She’s a Baby” is, it’s made even better by the fact that the lyrics are a fantastic example of Zico’s humor. Though maybe he’s actually suffering and I’m actually very cruel to be laughing at his pain… In which case, I am sorry. I just find the twist at the end so very, very perfect, I can’t help but laugh. All though this song he’s singing about how perfect this girl is, and how much he loves her, how much he wishes she’d say she doesn’t just like him, but loves him too, and then we get to the end and he says that he’s totally jealous of her boyfriend and AUGH! The twist, so unexpected and yet so perfect… It kills me every time! Again, maybe I shouldn’t laugh at a man who’s pining for another man’s woman but the idea of it all hits me just the right way, I crack up every time. (I know, I need help.)
Needless to say, I’m very much loving this week’s tune but what I’d like to know is, what do you think of Zico’s latest solo single? You know I love hearing from you so be sure to let me know in the comments below!
