ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Angel Eyes Episodes 9-10

star kisses

Episodes Nine and Ten mark the half-way point of Angel Eyes which means these two episodes were nothing short of an emotional roller-coaster. From moments of sorrow and heartache to moments of sheer bliss, this week’s episodes had them all which means we’ve got a lot to discuss so let’s get to it!

pathetic loser

I suppose it only make sense to pick up where things left off last week, with Ji Woon uncovering the truth about Soo Wan and Dong Joo. You knew it was only a matter of time before he found out that the man in Soo Wan’s heart was Dong Joo and because this is a melodrama, you knew that he would find out before either one of them had the chance to tell him. Oh the joys of being the second male lead! Unfortunately for Ji Woon, whatever shred of sympathy I may have been harboring for him disappeared once he decided to take the low road and become a mean, spiteful, vindictive punk who refused to listen to reason, accept his fate and cling, pathetically to Soo Wan, all the while declaring he would make things go back to the way they once were. Seriously Ji Woon? That’s how you’re gonna roll? Sorry but you’ve officially lost all respect from me and I will now place you on the list of pathetic second leads who never deserved the girl in the first place.

not fated to be inlaws

To be fair, there may still be a chance for Ji Woon to redeem himself but at this particular moment, it’s not looking so good for him. Soo Won has already flat-out told him that she loves someone else and will never be able to marry him. She’s also gone so far as to tell both her father and Ji Woon’s mother the same thing. Pretty much everyone in the world now knows that Soo Won will never be interested in Ji Woon ever again and yet he still refuses to accept that fact, which is why I’m completely disappointed in him now. There comes a point in time when you just have to accept the reality of the situation and move on and for Ji Woon, this is definitely one of them. Perhaps things will be better now that his mom has decided to step in and take charge of the situation. Of course we all know that the only reason Dr. Oh Young Ji is stepping in is because she’s directly related to the death of Yoo Jung Hwa and she wants absolutely no ties to anyone involved in that case, even if the majority of them consider her a friend.

scary lady

I’m beginning to believe that Dr. Oh is a much more sinister character than I ever realized. I’ve always had my suspicions about her but they were mostly due to the fact that she was just a mean, bitter woman disguised as an old family friend. Now I’m thinking that she’s played a darker role in this story the entire time and we just haven’t known about it. Is it possible her husband was behind the hit and run accident that resulted in Jung Hwa’s death? Is it even more possible that Dr. Oh charged her husband with the task in the first place? Or perhaps Dr. Oh used his car to commit the crime herself… I’m still not really sure what’s going on here, when it comes to the accident itself but I am completely convinced that Dr. Oh and not Dr. Choi (as I had previously suspected) was directly responsible for Jung Hwa’s death. Naturally this new development has me wondering what role Dr. Choi played in all of this in the past. Was he possibly used, by Dr. Oh, to ensnare Dr. Yoon Jae Beom in some sort of trap, perhaps something that could later be used as blackmail? Dr. Oh was perfectly aware of Dr. Yoon’s desperation to give his daughter back her eyesight, could she have used this situation to cover her tracks? If that’s the case, she’s let Dr. Yoon carry a horrible burden of guilt all these years without ever once feeling any sort of remorse which means she really is a nasty piece of work. Of course, all of this is simply my speculation but if even a shred of it proves to be true, it begs a bigger question and that is: Why would Dr. Oh be after Jung Hwa in the first place? Was it really to provide the eyes Soo Wan needed or is there more to the story that we just don’t know about yet?

sisters

I could ponder questions such as these for forever but then I’d never get to squee over how adorable Teddy Seo and Hye Joo are and that would just be sad because they are two of the most adorable characters, possibly ever and I just love them both. I love Hye Joo’s innocence and sweetness and I love the relationship she has with both her brother and Soo Wan. It’s like she’s waited all her life to have her big sister back and now that they’re together, I think they’re going to be pretty much inseparable which, I think, is fantastic as both Hye Joo and Soo Wan are in desperate need of female companionship. Yes, Soo Wan has Min Soo but their relationship is vastly different and Soo Wan could really use a sweeter, gentler friend, from time to time. And then there’s Teddy, who is so obviously smitten with Hye Joo that I can’t help but smile, every time he appears on-screen. I’m sure that if he continues to swoon over her and never takes any action, I’m going to get sick of his puppy love but as of right now, I think he’s adorable and I really, really hope he fins a way to ask Hye Joo out and I hope, even more, that she says, “Yes.” Until then, I have high hopes of Hye Joo and Teddy spending some quality time together, as she’s now Jin Mo’s nanny, and perhaps, their relationship can progress from there. *fingers crossed*

spider man and cat woman

Before I wrap this up, I just have to say something about Yoon Jae Beom. I know that he has finally given his blessing to Dong Joo and Soo Wan but was I the only one left with a sinking feeling that he was about to go and do something really drastic and awful? Maybe that’s just my over-active imagination at work but when he walked away from Dong Joo at the fishing hole, the look on his face and the lack of response left me wondering what Jae Beom was planning next. After living with years of guilt, I could see him thinking that the only way to be free from the guilt, or the only way to let Soo Wan and Dong Joo live a happy life, was to end his own life and I really wouldn’t put it past him to try. Once again, this is all simply my speculation and I may go to watch the next two episodes and find that I’m completely wrong (which is fine) but I just can’t shake the ominous feeling I had at the end of that fishing scene.

bad feeling
