I’ve reached the point where I’m just so done with this drama. I don’t even want to waste my time on it anymore but since we’ve only got one week left to go, I’ll suck it up for the sake of finishing this review. However, that doesn’t mean I have to be happy with this decision any more than it means I have to be happy with the way things have gone with this rather ridiculous drama.
So we left off last week with In Ho and Yoo Jung beating the crap out of each other and when it was all over, Yoo Jung went off to be consoled by Seol while In Ho was left to be hurt and miserable all on his own. Things were equally frustrating this week, as Seol has decided to give up on all use of her brain and let her entire life be governed by her manipulative jerk of a boyfriend. As such, Seol goes out of her way to avoid In Ho and treat him like crap, which she goes off to play dewy-eyed imbecile with her stupid boyfriend.
I swear, I was so mad at Seol for the way she treated In Ho at the library. It was her idea to help him with his studies, her offer to help that gave him the determination he needed to get his life back on track, and then she runs off to go talk crap about how she’s only going to help him with studies and not have any personal dealings with him anymore. What in the world!?! In Ho has done nothing but befriend her and look out for her and help take care of his family and all he gets in return is crap like this!?! Arugh! I’m honestly so mad about this I can’t even think straight.
As if In Ho didn’t have enough going on in his life, we find out he’s actually been running from a bunch of gangsters because he bailed on them and took some money. Now he has to pay that money back, plus interest, and the gangsters want to take him back to Busan to work for them for the rest of his life. I hate that In Ho felt the need to turn himself in just to protect Seol. I mean I love that he’s so chivalrous that he’s willing to put himself in harm’s way to protect those he loves but I hate that he had to make such a sacrifice for one as unworthy as Seol. I do agree that her family deserves protection, as they’re the only people on the face of the planet that actually care for In Ho, however Seol deserves no such consideration. Let the mob go after her, she’s got creepy psychopath boyfriend to take care of her. She’ll be fine.
Except Yoo Jung is pretty much worthless when it comes to fulfilling his boyfriendly duties. Rather than be there for his girlfriend when she needs help, he’s always missing. He himself admits that In Ho is always the one to come to the rescue when Seol needs saving which means Yoo Jung knows he sucks as a boyfriend but he can’t actually change that because he sucks as a human being in general. I’ve never come across someone as controlling and manipulative as Yoo Jung and no matter how long this drama drags on, he never changes. He continues to hurt people in the worst ways and he continues to rationalize his actions by calling it justice. In short, he’s a whacked out psycho who needs serious help but he’ll never get it because no one around him can see just how awful he is.
The only person, other than the Baek siblings, able to see Yoo Jung as he really is, was Seol but now that she’s let herself fall so hard for him, even she is blinded by the truth. The once smart, strong, intelligent, independent leading lady of this drama has now become nothing more than a blind, weak, pathetic, manipulated fool. To be with Yoo Jung, Seol has given up everything about herself that made her an interesting individual. Now she’s nothing more than Yoo Jung’s puppet, unable to think or act or feel anything without Yoo Jung telling her to. She’s lost friends, she’s lost respect, she’s lost her independence, and for what? A boyfriend who makes her miserable 98% of the time? I’m sorry but no matter how good-looking or well-off your boyfriend is, if he’s a psycho who won’t let you be yourself, you leave him. You don’t stick around and justify all his actions because they were done for you. Sorry but no. If you’re okay with someone ruining the lives of other people on your behalf, you have just as many problems as the one doing the ruining.
As if I didn’t already have 18 million reasons to be frustrated with this drama, let’s just add more to the mix by ruining every good thing In Ho has going for him. Because why not? Apparently if you’re a good guy in this story, your life is going to be screwed up forever so poor In Ho never stood a chance. It’s not enough he’s got a louse for a sister and a bunch of gangsters after him. No, now we have to watch as the only thing he’s got going for him is failing him for some mysterious reason. Seriously drama gods!?! Was this absolutely necessary!?! In Ho’s one chance at making something out of his life is his ability to play the piano and now we’ve got to mess with that by bringing back an old injury? Where’s the justice in this world!?! In Ho has to be able to play the piano so he can get out of this hell-hole he’s in and starting living a life filled with purpose and meaning and laughter and love. He needs to get away from this toxic environment full of toxic people and he needs to be free to live and love and be loved without being constantly dragged down by the people around him. His only chance is through his music and if that’s taken away… Oh gosh! I can’t even think about it! THIS CANNOT HAPPEN! And that’s all I have to say about that!
The only somewhat bright spot for me this week was watching Eun Taek and Bo Ra finally get together. It may have taken them 12,000 years to finally figure out their feelings but they got there. I’ll admit Bo Ra’s reasoning behind not wanting to date Eun Take was just dumb. She doesn’t want to break up with the guy so she refuses to date him??? That make absolutely no sense to me but considering which drama we’re talking about here, it’s all kinda par for the course. At least she finally figured out her feelings and Eun Take was willing to accept them and now we get to watch them live happily ever after. I hope.
Honestly, I’m not expecting any sort of “happily ever after” from this drama. I’m not really expecting much of anything from this drama anymore, other than an ending. Be it happy or sad or something else altogether, I don’t really care. I just want it to be over. I’m tired of having my heart ripped to shreds on In Ho’s behalf. I’m tired of watching Seol let herself be devoured by Yoo Jung. I’m tired of so much of this drama, I just want it to be over. But what about you? Are you less frustrated by this drama than I am? Were there things you enjoyed about this week’s episodes? You know I always love hearing from you so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking in the comments below!
