ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Mask Episodes 11-12

looking kinda nervous

Things are certainly taking an interesting turn as this crazy story continues to unfold and I have to say, I’m liking where this is headed. Of course I’m a bit nervous that things will far apart before the end but for the moment, I’m celebrating with Ji Sook over her small triumphs.

save minwoo

We left off last week, wondering whether or not Min Woo was going to get the sack. Led like a lamb to the slaughter, Suk Hoon had brought Min Woo to a very crucial moment and had Eun Ha not stepped in when she did, her husband would have been removed from his position and most likely locked up in a mental institution. However, Eun Ha did step in, with a rock-solid alibi and not only saved Min Woo from certain dismissal from the company but also threw a giant monkey wrench in Suk Hoon’s plans.

this changes things

Of course that leaves Suk Hoon furious and he’s more than ready to take down Ji Sook but she’s done her homework and is more than prepared with Suk Hoon comes to threaten her. Handing him a USB that contains a perfectly clear video of Suk Hoon murdering Kim Jung Tae, Ji Sook demands Suk Hoon unfreeze all of Eun Ha’s accounts and once he sees what’s on that USB, he has no choice but to comply. With a seemingly endless supply of money at her disposal, Eun Ha pays off her family’s debt, treats her former co-workers to an amazing lunch and does all she can to ease the suffering of those around her who are seen as lesser beings by those she now calls family. However, there’s more to going on here than a few simple acts of kindness. When Ji Sook said she was going to become Eun Ha, she really meant it. After countless hours of study, Ji Sook has finally come to understand who Eun Ha was as well as what her relationship with Suk Hoon had been and that has made all the difference.

a moment

Now that Ji Sook better understands Suk Hoon’s plans and how Eun Ha fit into them, she can begin to work on unraveling them and it all starts with saving Min Woo. Her first step was, obviously, to keep Min Woo firmly planted in his position at work, which she did. Her second step was to help Min Woo understand that he’s been duped and drugged by his family for far too long and though it took some planning and a little sneakiness on her part, that too succeeded. Of course learning he’s been so horribly treated by his family was a crushing blow to poor Min Woo but he had Ji Sook by his side to comfort him and now that he knows the truth, he’s one step closer to uncovering so many truths. I have a feeling the road ahead for Min Woo isn’t going to be an easy one, as the lies planted in his head slowly start to give way to truth, but as long as Ji Sook is with him, he’ll be okay. At least until he realizes his wife is actually Ji Sook and not Eun Ha… Ugh! I’m still not ready to think about that yet but we all know that day is coming.

birthday ring

Until that fateful day arrives, things between Eun Ha and Min Woo are going to continue to develop as feelings on both sides continue to grow. While Min Woo wants nothing more than to love and be loved by his wife, Eun Ha has made it perfectly clear that she cannot love him. What I love about that statement is that it leaves room for various interpretations and I’m choosing to believe that just because she says she cannot love him that doesn’t mean she won’t love him. Yes, it’s true she has no right to love Min Woo as Eun Ha but that doesn’t mean she can’t love him as Ji Sook. In fact, she does. Why else would she work so hard to free Min Woo from the awful schemes of his family? We already know Min Woo loves Eun Ha, the question is, is his love deep enough to accept her as Ji Sook, once he knows the truth? Min Woo is growing more suspicious of Suk Hoon’s relationship with Eun Ha, not because he doubts his wife of cheating but because he suspects Suk Hoon is somehow manipulating her. If he continues to follow down this path, will he eventually uncover the truth? If he does, will he be able to love Ji Sook for who she is and not who he thought she was? I suppose only time will tell.

murderous couple

While Min Woo believes in Eun Ha, Mi Yeon has absolutely no faith in her husband’s loyalty. She knows Suk Hoon and Eun Ha were having an affair and she’s spent a long time believing in Suk Hoon’s lies simply because she blindly loves him. While I can’t understand how anyone could love Suk Hoon, Mi Yeon does, so much so she’s willing to turn a blind eyes to his scheming, believe his lies and happily carry his baby. Which, can I just say, is probably the single most disturbing thing in this entire drama. Because really? In what world does having a baby make any crappy relationship better? Does Mi Yeon really believe that by having Suk Hoon’s baby he’ll suddenly become a loving father and devoted husband? If she does she’s a moron and if she doesn’t then why the heck would she want a baby so badly? I honestly don’t understand her reasoning here but I do know her constant suspicion of her husband is starting to show her things she really doesn’t want to know. Like, for instance, the fact that she’s responsible for Eun Ha’s death… Yeah. I’m pretty sure she would have much preferred not knowing the truth on that one. The question is, now that she knows the truth, what’s she going to do next? If Suk Hoon finds out she knows the truth, is he going to kill her like he did Kim Jung Tae? Is he going to bring her into his plans and together they can take out both Ji Sook and Min Woo? I highly doubt this is going to be a couple’s showdown so what is going to happen next? I guess that’s why they leave these episodes hanging like this, so we come back for more next week. (Dang it! I wanna know what happens now!)

Am I am murderer

So tell me, what did you think of this week’s episodes? Were you rejoicing with me over Ji Sook’s small victories? Did your heart break when Min Woo learned the truth about his “sleeping pills” and his lying doctor? Do you find it as fitting as I do that the two murders in this family are married? Is this coincidence or dramatic irony? What do you think Mi Yeon is going to do, now that she knows the truth about Eun Ha? Is she going to tell Suk Hoon she knows? Is she going to try to make Ji Sook’s life a living hell? Where do you think things are going to go from here? Will Ji Sook continue to gain small victories over Suk Hoon and the moneylenders? Will the moneylenders find a way to mess with Suk Hoon? Is this the beginning of Suk Hoon’s fall or will he find a way to rally and retaliate? You know I always love hearing from you so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking by leaving me a comment below!

  1. Although I fear that there will be plenty more bumps in the road, I enjoyed the break we got this week. Happy events, tears of joy, expressions of love, lovely piano music and the biggest one tier cake I’ve ever seen made me very happy. Ji Sook and Min Woo are growing in their feelings for each other in spite of the den of vipers they live in. They are even planning a violin/piano duet for their first anniversary. They are actually planning a future together as a couple!! How adorable is that?!

The creepy in-laws, however, are bad to the bone. We have discovered that both Min Woo’s sister AND brother-in-law are cold-blooded murderers. Brrrrr. Freaks me out that they are reproducing (or are they? She still hasn’t gone to the doctor. She wants to enjoy it a bit longer. What exactly does that mean?). And honestly, I think my mom and I had it all wrong. We NEVER went on a shopping spree for expensive purses when I found out I was pregnant while an indulgent husband swiped his credit card. Was it just me, or was that super strange?

I’m hoping the couple continues to have sweet moments. They need a good kissing scene, a shared bed, and perhaps a pregnancy of their own to keep up with the in-laws…but we’re only on episode 12, so we will most likely have to wait patiently for a few more episodes.

I just love this drama. I can’t help but look forward to each week’s episode.

    1. That one-tiered cake made me so ridiculously happy. I fell on the floor laughing when I first saw it. Take that you nasty jealous sister-in-law! hahaha

I’m so happy to see how well things are progressing between Min Woo and Ji Sook, they really do enjoy being in each other’s company and their affection is steadily growing. I love how completely in love Min Woo is with his wife, even though he has a hard time admitting it, I just wish he’d learn the truth about Ji Sook so they could develop their relationship on a solid foundation. This not knowing the truth is going to be a huge problem if it’s not taken care of soon and since I love both of these characters, I want them to avoid the pain of having this truth revealed, if at all possible. The longer Ji Sook goes without confessing the truth, the harder it’s going to be for Min Woo to forgive her. Of course now that he’s suspecting there’s some sort of blackmail or extortion on Suk Hoon’s part, maybe he’ll be a bit more accepting of Ji Sook’s true identity. (One can hope, right?)

The in-laws are definitely in a whole different league of crazy. I love that the murderers are married but really, do they have to reproduce? I can’t even imagine Suk Hoon giving his wife a warm look, let alone doing anything that would actually produce a baby. It seems hard to believe they could come together long enough to make a baby. The thought gives me the willies, actually but whatever. If Mi Yeon wants to carry her cold-hearted husband’s baby, then more power to her. I’m just trying to figure out how Mi Yeon is going to go longer than a day without alcohol. It doesn’t seem possible.

I totally screwed up in my own pregnancy celebrations! I can’t believe I missed out on an opportunity to buy expensive purses FOUR TIMES! What the heck was I thinking!?! Yeah, that whole shopping spree was so weird. I can see shopping for adorable baby clothes or a whole new maternity wardrobe but 10,000 purses and wallets??? I just don’t get it.

I really want the sweet moments to continue. They’re such a lovely breath of fresh air before plunging back into the depths of insanity. I good kissing scene would be fabulous. A shared bed would make all my dreams for this OTP come true. I think a pregnancy is pushing it at this moment but somewhere down the line, after all the crazy has been settled and our OTP has found a way to escape that house and the insane family that resides within it, then yes, I’d love to see them raising a family of their own. As long as they’re far, Far, FAR away from the rest of that family! Maybe they can take over Ji Sook’s family’s business and leave all that crazy behind them. Min Woo would be adorable in an apron, serving up ddeokbokki and cuddling with his wife… Okay, now I’m letting my imagination get the better of me. I’d better shut up now. lol

      1. Mi Yeon is way too selfish to be a mother. She is also way too much of an alcoholic to be a mother. And also a murderer. I really thought her husband would just string her along and pretend to be trying to get her pregnant while secretly having a vasectomy somewhere along the line. Lol. But appatently he’s the type of villain who wants to produce minions. Sad state of affairs. That poor child doesn’t stand a chance. Just book him a room in juvie now because he’ll definitely be serving time in about 18 years.

Min Woo in an apron, with a small child on one hip, cuddling his wife would be heaven. Hahaha! I like your thinking. That’s a couple that should reproduce. (I bet SHE won’t buy a thousand purses.)
