ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Mask Episodes 13-14

violin duet

This week’s episodes were filled with so much Min Woo cuteness, I almost had a heart-attack from an overload of adorable. I swear, there’s something about that man that makes my heart melt… But there’s more to talk about this week than Min Woo’s adorable moments so let’s get to it!

crazy sister

Picking up where we left off last week, Mi Yeon had just been struck with the realization that she was the one responsible for Eun Ha’s death. Having uncovered Eun Ha’s true identity, Mi Yeon takes the reality of her situation pretty hard which, I have to say, I’m rather happy about. I mean most people would be devastated to learn they were a murder so Mi Yeon’s reaction proves she has at least a little bit of humanity in her. However, that tiny moment of human weakness is quickly overshadowed by her insatiable need to reveal the truth about Ji Sook. What I don’t understand is why Mi Yeon is so dead-set on telling the world Eun Ha is dead. Does Mi Yeon not understand what that truth will mean for her family? Does she simply not care? I don’t really get it.

showdown

I seems to me Mi Yeon is trying to vent years of pent-up anger and resentment against her husband and I think it’s this blind jealous mixed with rage that’s impairing her judgment. I just don’t see how revealing Ji Sook as an impostor will make things better. Sure, it will get Ji Sook out of the house, which will make it easier for Mi Yeon to forget she ever had anything to do with the death of Eun Ha but will that ultimately solve anything? I highly doubt it! If anything, having Suk Hoon’s involvement in all of this exposed will utterly destroy him and their marriage and I just don’t think Mi Yeon is ready to give up on her husband yet. She’s still too dependent on him for her happiness. Unless she’s given up on being happy now and she just wants to be free from the insanity of her life. As much as I’d like for this to be the case, I really don’t think it is. I think, more than anything, Mi Yeon is hurt that Suk Hoon has found a way to keep Eun Ha around, even after her death. I don’t think Mi Yeon seens Ji Sook as a threat to her family, rather I think she’s seen as a cheap substitution of her husband’s mistress and that’s what makes her angry. I think all Mi Yeon really wants is to be free from Eun Ha, and her hold over Suk Hoon, forever.

contract editing

Sadly, the only way Mi Yeon will ever get what she wants is by removing Ji Sook from the picture and that  means dealing Min Woo a devastating blow. The good news is, that blow didn’t come until the very end of this week’s episodes which means we had a whole bunch of OTP bonding moments to help soften the blow. Or make it worse… Ugh! Why do so many moments of sweet happiness have to come before that one fatal blow? It’s just one of the laws of the Dramaverse, right? Stupid laws! Still, I guess I can’t complain too much because I really did enjoy watching Min Woo and Ji Sook together this week. They are seriously adorable together and the way Min Woo has fallen for his wife… *sigh* He just makes me happy.

no more contract

I wish Ji Sook had found a way to tell Min Woo the truth before Mi Yeon stepped in to mess everything up but I guess that would have made things too easy. As it is, Ji Sook will be a step behind and Min Woo’s going to have some serious issues to take up with her, once he gets home. The question is, will Min Woo be able to look past the lies to see the truth? Is his love strong enough to overcome this rather enormous obstacle? Will he be patient enough with Ji Sook to hear her out or will he kick her to the curb before she ever has a chance to explain? I’d like to think that Min Woo’s love for his wife would at least grant her the chance to tell him everything but you just never know what’s going to happen in a situation like this. You’d think that will all the time that was dedicated to showing us just how much in love Min Woo and Ji Sook are, we’d be able to count on that love to get them through this but can we really? Min Woo has been through so much hurt in his life, he’s only just now started opening up to his wife. Will this sudden revealing of the truth cause him to clam back up or will he reach out to his wife and try to face this whole messy situation head on? I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best but I suppose only time will tell where things will go from here.

a shocking truth

So tell me, what did you think of this week’s episodes? Did you enjoy the cute Min Woo/Ji Sook moments as much as I did? Did your heart flutter when he tore their marriage contract up and sent the pieces flying into oblivion? Do you think Mi Yeon is justified in her actions towards Ji Sook? Why do you think Mi Yeon is so determined to reveal Ji Sook’s identity? It seems to me there’s a serious husband/wife showdown going on between Mi Yeon and Suk Hoon at the moment, which side do you think will win? With either of them win or will they ultimately destroy each other? After all, Suk Hoon knows the truth behind Eun Ha’s death. Do you think he’s crazy enough to try something stupid as a means of getting revenge? Am I the only one slightly concerned for Mi Yeon’s life? Especially now that they’re not having a kid together? Do you think Min Woo will be able to forgive Ji Sook for lying like she did? Will he be able to see Ji Sook as the woman he loves or only as a lying impostor? Where do you see things going from here? You know I always love hearing from you so be sure to let me know what you’re thinking by leaving me a comment below!

  1. That was awesome analysis of why Mi Yeon was insistent on revealing Ji Sook! For the life of me, I couldn’t make heads or tails of her motivation because of the peril that it would put not only the family by Suk Hoon! What you wrote makes absolute sense into the psyche of Mi Yeon! Woman is CRAZY!!! Thanks!!

  2. My heart melted over and over this week as Min Woo began to express his feelings for his wife. His shopping spree where his assistant held the clothes up to his body, taking over for the sales lady, was hysterical and so sweet. Min Woo is obviously smitten with Ji Sook and it couldn’t be any cuter. The editing of the contract which later led to a complete dismissal of it, the walk across the lake on the stepping stones while holding hands, the violin “duet”, the stained couch…OMG!! Cuteness overload. I just adore Min Woo’s character. It’s no wonder that JiSook can’t resist. The panic that came over her when she thought MinWoo was fatally injured was palpable. It was not the most beautiful confession, but when she confessed in the hospital, Min Woo was so pleased, as were the viewers.

As for Mi Yeon, I’m also confused with her dedication to exposing Ji Sook. It will ruin her father’s company and bring her husband down as an accomplice to an identity theft. She, too, will end up in jail for murder. Does she just want everyone to be as miserable as she is? It really doesn’t make sense. It appears that her husband should have been medicating his wife instead of MinWoo…she belongs in a psychiatric facility. Maybe they could book a honeymoon suite and go together??

And what’s up with Suk Hoon’s dad? What happened that needs revenge? That was weird and came at us out of left field. I’m sure they’ll start fleshing that out, but I feel like they shouldn’t have waited so long to introduce this new story line. And did he really not know that his wife was responsible for his girlfriend’s death? What did he think happened? Did he think Min Woo had actually done it?

I’m hoping Min Woo will be willing to work with JiSook to straighten out all of the confusion due to the sweet foundation of friendship and love that have developed and not make us suffer through several episodes of them being apart. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

    1. You’ve touched on everything I wanted to talk about but ran out of room to say. Especially when it comes to Suk Hoon’s dad. Where the heck did that come from and why in the world is it only being brought up now? I mean I get that Suk Hoon had to have some sort of reason for watching to get revenge on Min Woo’s family but really? Did they have to throw in this sick father now??? There’s not a lot of time for resolution here but maybe they’re throwing it in as a last ditch effort to give Suk Hoon some humanity? If he’s seeking revenge for his father, maybe that makes his crazy a little more excusable? I have no idea.

You’re right about Mi Yeon needing to be admitted to a mental institution. She’s a crazy as her husband! I think the honeymoon suite is the best idea for them. Maybe the could get come couples therapy while they’re there.

I do hope the sweetness of this week’s episodes isn’t overshadowed by an upcoming overload of bitterness. I want Min Woo and Ji Sook to be able to work through this and come out the other side triumphant. I’m cheering for them and crossing my fingers for a happy ending.
