ZOMBIE’S DRAMA REVIEW: Oh My Venus Episodes 9-10

finding peace

Oh my gosh! My heart! It can’t take much more of this gloriously torturous drama! I just want to laugh and cry and sigh and sing and… Ack! There are just too many feels! I don’t know how to handle them all!

please

So last week we left off with Young Ho having a massive episode and Joo Eun completely at a loss as to how to help him. We were all wondering what the heck was going on there and we had to wait an excruciatingly long week to find out but now we know he was suffering from some sort of psychological attack. It would seem whenever Young Ho’s stressed, his body reacts by making him feel pain in his knee that really isn’t there. Well, it’s there but there’s no physical reason for it to be there, it just is. I’m happy we finally got to find out what exactly was wrong with Yong Ho’s knee in the first place. I have to say, cancer wasn’t what I was expecting but I’m happy to know he’s cancer-free now. (I’m also happy to see someone writing a drama that proves there is life after cancer but I won’t go any farther down that rabbit trail. For now.)

found her

I was happy with the way Joo Eun and Young Ho got through this episode. He asked her to let him deal with this on his own and she understood this request wasn’t made out of spite or selfishness or any other ridiculous reason so she left. However just because she left the room doesn’t mean she actually left him. She was there, standing behind the door, bawling her eyes out, not because she was hurt by Young Ho’s request but because the one she loves was in pain and there wasn’t anything she could do to make it better. Offering the only support she could, she stayed close by throughout the entire episode and that’s where Young Ho found her, once he was finally able to pull himself back together. If that’s not the mark of a truly exceptional relationship, I don’t know what is.

confession

I kind of think this episode and the night spent together afterwards was a kind of turning point for Young Ho and Joo Eun. Not in an overly drastic way but in a way that takes their relationship to a much more serious level. You don’t share your inner-most secrets and dark past with someone who’s just a fling and they both know that. I think coming to that realization is what prompted Young Ho to make his confession while camping and again to Chief Min. Young Ho’s not the type of guy to flippantly announce something like this which is probably why Joon Sung and Ji Yong were so surprised. It’s not that Young Ho’s never dated before because he obviously has (otherwise we wouldn’t be dealing with this Anna Sue scandal) but I don’t think he’s ever taken a relationship so seriously. He’s admitted that he’s not ready to think about marriage yet, which is understandable considering the amount of change he’s already dealing with in his life, but he certainly can’t deny how much he’s come to depend on Joo Eun. She’s not just a pretty face he keeps around for those days when he needs a little company, she’s the person he turns to when his life is hard and he just doesn’t know how to keep going. She’s quickly becoming the person who makes life worth living and he’s becoming the same for her. It’s cute and heart-wrenching all at the same time, watching these two pine for each other when they’re apart. It kinda makes you wonder why Joo Eun ever moved out and then you see where we’ve been forced to leave these two for the next week and you realize, oh yeah! She needs her own place so Young Ho can go hide-out there for a while. Oh those sneaky scriptwriters! They’re always plotting something!

not so great

While things with Joo Eun and Young Ho are intensifying things with Soo Jin and Woo Sik are cooling off at a surprising rate. I guess something like this was to be expected, seeing as how Soo Jin has never been anything but jealous of Joo Eun. Even when she has everything that once belonged to Joo Eun, Soo Jin still can’t find a way to be happy. Imagine that! I find it kinda funny, the way Soo Jin always expects the worst from Woo Sik. It’s like she’s just waiting for the moment when things fall apart between them because she thrives on disappointment or something. She’s always suspecting the worst and reading way more into things than is really there and she’s gotten to the point where she’s absolutely miserable and yet she refuses to address any of the issues that are upsetting her. Instead she just shuts everyone out and blames the world at large for her problems. Will this girl ever learn that the only way to find happiness is to first be content within herself?

im star

I’m sad to say that Woo Sik needs to learn this same lesson. This poor man is so conflicted both in his personal and professional life, I can’t help but feel sorry for him, in a loathing kind of way. I simply can’t stand someone who can’t figure out which way he wants to go and ends up doing nothing but making himself miserable. Dumb man just needs to walk away from every aspect of his life and start over somewhere far, far away. I think that’s the only way he’s going to be able to get over all the ghosts of his past (and present) and move on. I really can’t understand his feelings towards Joo Eun any more than I can understand his wishy-washy feelings towards Young Ho. Does he like the man? Does he hate him? Is he jealous? Does he want to protect him for Joo Eun’s sake? There’s so much wavering back and forth it’s really making me nauseous. Woo Sik just needs to pick a side and stick with it or just go away altogether. I’d honestly be fine with either.

push 'em in the pool

While Woo Sik can’t seem to make up his mind about anything, Ye Jin certainly seems to know what she wants and that’s nothing other than Joon Sung. While I can understand Ye Jin’s infatuation, I can’t support any of Ye Jin’s actions. She’s nothing short of a creepy sasaeng and I’m appalled that Ji Yong is encouraging her craziness by helping her carry out her psychotic plans of seduction. I mean sure, it was nice to see Ji Yong and Joon Sung in the pool but to plot with Ye Jin and fake her drowning just so Joon Sung would “rescue” her and give her mouth-to-mouth??? C’mon Ji Yong! You’re better than this! I was seriously hoping Joon Sung would push them both into the pool on his way out but he didn’t because he’s just way too nice of a guy. Dang it!

horrid

Speaking of suffering… Can anyone explain to me why Choi Hye Ran refuses to leave her mother-in-law’s house? She’s not even related to that awful woman by blood so why the heck is she clinging to her when she’s been given the chance to escape? Is it because she’s afraid leaving will mean her son’s cut off from the family fortune? From what I’ve picked up so far, this boy doesn’t stand a chance of getting anything out of the family or the company anyway so why cling to the hope of a bright future when there’s no hope to begin with? Hye Ran is miserable enough living with a husband who doesn’t seem to love her, so why stick around and live with a horrid woman like Young Ho’s grandmother? If it were me, I’d be gone faster than you could blink but then again, if it were me, I wouldn’t have married Young Ho’s dad to begin with. (I still don’t understand that at all.)

sick man

As for Kim Sung Chul, I was surprised to learn that he’s actually quite sick. I wasn’t expecting him to be suffering from any sort of serious illness but apparently he is and has been for over a year now. I guess this is why everyone’s so anxious for Young Ho to take his place in the company. We can’t have anyone thinking any prominent figure in the company is weak, now can we? Honestly, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard but whatever. If you ask me people who fight cancer are some of the strongest people on the face of the planet but I have a very strong personal feelings on cancer to begin with so I’ll just leave things here and move on. However ridiculous it is to me to imagine a company failing just because a chairperson is sick, I have no knowledge of the business world so I’m just gonna go with this as the way things work. That being the case, I do have to wonder what people will say when they find out Young Ho once had cancer himself. I understand this is why it’s so important to everyone that Young Ho’s finally healthy but still, this is something he’s going to have follow him forever. Will the company and those invested be okay with him leading if he was once so weak? I guess that’s why there are those who are trying to prevent Young Ho from taking his father’s place. Well, that and they’re just greedy.

these two are killing me

While I’m pondering things, I do wonder how all of this is going to play out in the future. It’s bad enough this whole Anna Sue scandal has become public (and I really hope that PD hangs for doing this to Young Ho) but what will people say when Young Ho’s medical history is also revealed? Will his younger half-brother really be the one to take over the company because of all of this? It does make me wonder, especially when he serves no other purpose in this story so far. Oh! There’s so much more to ponder but I’ve rambled on long enough so I’m gonna call it quits here. If you want to keep discussing, you know what to do! Just leave me a comment below and we can talk and squee and cry and sing and… ACK! Have I mentioned how much I love this drama!?!

  1. OH my goodness!! So many things happened, yet we haven’t moved very far forward. There are a lot of things to resolve, but I’m excited to see how it will all work out.

I haven’t liked her so far his drama, but by now I can’t stand YeJin. I don’t know why people are encouraging her crazy behavior. It’s not cute or funny. It’s psycho stalker behavior and they should be getting her some help and protecting the object of her obsession. It’s one of the story lines that I wish wasn’t in this drama. And we all know she’ll get her man…yuck. Makes me sick.

Young Ho’s stepmom is odd. Do you think she wants to stay because she feels it offers the best opportunities for her son?? She is pathetic. I feel sorry for her. She has been abused by everyone around her and doesn’t know how to live any other way. She’d rather stick with the familiar and maintain social status for her son. After all, it’s the only positive thing she has ever received from this sick relationship. These people are messed up!

Young Ho and Joo Eun are so cute together (although I do think she’s a bit of a tease). The reason she can’t stay at his house is because of Young Ho’s need for a squeaky clean image. First – he should not be living with someone he is not engaged to, and secondly she is not of an appropriate social status to be his partner. She is definitely going to suffer. I hope they don’t have her wallowing in misery for too long, but we know they’ll overcome it all somehow. This IS a K-drama. “Confession time” for Young Ho was so sweet. I loved him in those moments. He’s realizing how very much he cares about Joo Eun and wants to be able to be open about

And what’s the big deal about Anna Sue? Is it just because she’s an American? Was she married or something like that? Because who cares if a grown man in his 30’s has a physical relationship with a beautiful woman of any race?? I don’t really get why it’s a big deal. It’s not like he married her or brought her home to meet grandma. It was a young man’s fling.

I look forward to this every week. I hope to see some decent progress in the physical department for our cute lead couple. (They could both use some TLC!) I hope YeJin gets a modeling job in China and leaves the country. (Fat chance!) I hope the John Kim scandal fizzles quickly. (The likelihood of that is low.) I’d like to see Woo Shik do some maturing and realize that he is repeating the same pattern of neglecting/hurting his partner then begging for forgiveness (typical of an abuser) and expecting it to work. I hope Soo Jin’s detachment isn’t a sign of an emotional break and that she won’t start becoming super evil in the near future (maybe it’s just because I’m still traumatized from Mask). I hope for sunshine and rainbows…but we all know there have to be rainstorms along the way. I’m hoping that these storms don’t reach hurricane levels. After all, it’s Christmas, right???
