OH MY GIDDY FLIPPING AUNT! This week’s episode of The Three Musketeers very nearly gave me a heart attack and if it weren’t for that last shot in next week’s preview, I’d be flipping all kinds of tables right now, ranting and raving about this week’s ridiculously nerve-wracking cliffhanger!
Picking up where we left off last week, we find the Princess begging Sohyeon him to let her leave the palace as a dethroned princess and all I can say is, I’m happy the Prince said no. I know things between these two have been difficult, what with the Prince carrying around all kinds of guilt and heartbreak over the way things went with Mi Ryeong, and the Princess living the past five years feeling unwanted and unloved, but I think they’re finally starting to understand each other and that’s going to go a long way in helping these two actually build a relationship. The way I see it, these two have spent the past five years as acquaintances, maybe on a good day, friends, but they’ve never bothered trying to go farther even though it’s now painfully obvious that Yoon Seo would like to at least try. Poor girl! She has to drink an entire pot of alcohol and start ranting around the palace like a crazy person before Sohyeon will bother to listen to her and it’s only after she’s passed out that what she’s said sinks in. At least her words have finally hit home, or at least they seemed to. It looked to me like there was a moment, while Yoon Seo was passed out on the bed, when the Prince finally took a good look at his wife and saw her for who she really was. I hope that while he spent all that time at the hot springs, he managed to reflect on everything Yoon Seo said in her drunken rage and I really really hope that he starts seeing her not as a burden or an obligation, but as the treasure she is. I have hope that he will, especially after that last scene with them together. His obvious concern for her safety and his promise to bring her back to him, whether she wanted to come or not, made me think Sohyeon’s finally starting to see the light and I have to say, I really hope I’m right.
While Yoon Seo was getting wasted and trying to make the moves on Sohyeon, Dal Hyang’s been busy escorting Yong Gol Dae and company towards the border. You know, that’s gotta be a fairly boring job, walking for days on end with nothing more to do than look at the feet of a kid who keeps giving you the eye, especially if you can’t figure out if that kid is a girl or a boy. (Seriously, Dal Hyang? Are you really that blind?) I did think that whole scene was hilarious though, watching Dal Hyang get hit on by the merchant’s daughter and I loved loved loved that Pan Shwe just started translating for Dal Hyang as he chatted with Tan Yi. Can Dal Hyang get a better servant than Pan Shwe? I don’t think so! Pan Shwe’s awesome! (I also think Dal Hyang’s smile, as Tan Yi showers him with compliments, is also awesome but that’s too fangirly so I won’t say any more than that… Oh he’s so cute! Okay, sorry. I lied… Now I’m done.)
Too bad Pan Shwe wasn’t there to translate for Dal Hyang when Gol Dae decided to start going at him with his sword. It might have saved his neck! Literally. (Okay, not literally because we all know that Dal Hyang didn’t actually die but OH MY GOODNESS! I spent a whole lot of time this week worrying that he had.) I’m really super curious to know what Mi Ryeong told Gol Dae after she drugged him because whatever it was, it had to have been bad. Why else would Gol Dae go after a guy who he had, only hours before, promised to train? It only makes sense that whatever Mi Ryeong told Gol Dae, it was bad enough to send him over the edge; either that or the drug she gave him was powerful enough to make him read more into what she said than she actually said but I’m pretty sure that with the way this whole scheme of Ja Jeom’s went down, she told Gol Dae a flat-out lie and he believed every word of it. I’m not gonna lie, when I saw Gol Dae swing his sword for that one final blow, and the blood hit his face, I was totally freaking out. I spent a whole lot of time after that trying to convince myself that Dal Hyang wouldn’t actually die but the longer this episode went on, the less sure I became. You have no idea how happy I was when, at the last-minute, they showed Dal Hyang lying hidden beneath the floor. I cheered. Loudly. And then nearly passed out because they left things looking like Dal Hyang was about to die for real. (Oh thank goodness for next week’s preview!)
You know, as much as I hate to admit this, Ja Jeom did an amazing job with this whole scheme of his and I have to applaud him for it. It’s not every day you come across a Drama Land villain who actually has the brains to come up with a plan like this, let alone come across one who can actually pull it off but Ja Jeom did. Boy did he ever! I still can’t believe he plotted something this big and actually made it work! In one well-laid plan, he’s managed to take care of every single one of his enemies and I’m just floored by that! Of course things aren’t going to look so well for him once he realizes Da Hyang isn’t actually dead but at this moment, it looks like he’s well on his way to victory and I have to give the man props. He’s one clever slime-ball.
I am a bit nervous for Gol Dae at the moment. Kneeling in front of the executioner isn’t the best place to be and I’m honestly afraid no one is going to be able to show up in time to save him; the Prince is too far away, Dal Hyang is on the verge of being skewered, Seung Po and Min Seo are completely powerless and the executioner is giddily dancing around Gol Dae, swinging a mighty big sword. I keep hoping that by some miraculous chance Dal Hyang will show up and rescue Gol Dae and then they’ll be best buddies for life (okay, so maybe that’s going a bit too far) but it would be nice if someone would turn up at the last-minute and keep Gol Dae from losing his head.
So tell me, do you think this is really the end for Gol Dae? Will someone miraculously come to his rescue or is he toast? What about Dal Hyang? He’s in a pretty big pickle at the moment, how do you think he’ll get out? Will the Prince actually be able to put a stop to Ja Jeom’s plans or are things too far gone? I love this episode as I finally start to see some real feelings from the CP towards the CPs. Dalhyang, Pan Shwe and YGD’s interactions with each other are just so good and cute, and of course that priceless sweet smile on Dalhyang’s face after he sneaks a second look at Tan Yi when he found out that she is smitten with him.
From Ep 10 preview, can I guess that the 3 musketeers went into action to save YGD from the gallows but in the process got caught and that’s why they are in lock-up? And some how our Dalhyang escapes from his precarious predicament and comes to save the day? Can’t wait for the next episode to see how all this pans out.
