ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Fall In Love With Me Episode 1

better title screenAlright, I really wasn’t going to do this but after watching the first episode of Fall in Love With Me, I just can’t help myself… I’m going to have to write a review for this one so let’s get to it! Jiayou!

Aaron Yan

I suppose I ought to start off by saying that I am beyond excited to be watching another T-drama starring Aaron Yan! I absolutely loved him in Just You and I’m so happy to see him taking on a role that’s a bit more diverse than his last. Not that he wasn’t completely adorable in Just You, because he was, I just think that he has the potential to do more with a character and I think he’ll have the chance in Fall in Love With MeI’m also excited to see so many of my other favorite Taiwanese actors taking up roles in Fall in Love With Me. Jack Li (who played Gao Zhe Xuan in Love Around), Jian Chang (also from Love Around), Xie Qiong Nuan (who played Aaron Yan’s mother in Just You) and Katherine Wang (also from Just You) all made me smile as they made their appearances in this first episode. It’s like getting all of my favorite people back together for some sort of drama reunion and it’s fantastic!

really

Even more fantastic is starting off a drama with a female lead that doesn’t annoy the crap out of me! I know this may seem a bit harsh but there have been so many times when I’ve sat down to start a new T-drama and have immediately rolled my eyes at the naivety or silliness of the female lead. That’s not so say that they’re all bad or that they don’t grow on me after a while (Puff’s character in Just You is a perfect example of a female lead I grew to love) but it’s nice to start off a drama with a female lead that doesn’t make me immediately want to facepalm myself. I think Tia Li is adorable as Tao Le Si in Fall in Love With Me and I’m loving the chemistry between her and Lu Tian Xing/Xiao Lu (Aaron Yan).

As for the story itself, I’m intrigued to see how this is going to play out. I can’t actually imagine the CEO of a hugely successful advertising firm suddenly walking away from it all to go and help out the competition, no matter what the sentimental ties but why be picky over something like that? This is a T-drama we’re talking about here, sometimes things don’t make sense but we just go with it anyway. (And really, isn’t that the way things go in pretty much all of our beloved Asian dramas?) Since I find the characters of this story so lovable and the chemistry between the male and female leads to be quite satisfying, I’m willing to over-look the lack of practicality here because, let’s face it, this drama is just too much fun to nitpick over. I laughed so many times while I watched this first episode, which means the writers have at least got the comedy part of this rom-com down and that makes me so happy! Here’s hoping the comedy lasts as the story progresses. We’ve got thirty episodes to get through before this drama ends and, seeing as how it’s a T-drama, things can get pretty drawn out at times so I’m hoping the quicker pace, adorable acting and the laughs of this first episode will continue as the story progresses because I’m going to be writing this review for a long, long time!

awkward

So what did you think of this first episode? Are you as happy as I am to see Aaron Yan starring in another drama? What are you most looking forward to seeing as this story progresses? I’d love to hear what you’re thinking so be sure to leave me a comment below! (By the way, if you’re looking for more in-depth discussion of this drama, have no fear, I’ll start digging into the plot and characters more in the next episode, I just had to get this introduction out-of-the-way first. And just for the record, I’m pretty sure the dog is going to be the one to blow Tian Xing’s cover, though it’s probably going to take a ridiculously long time for anyone to notice that the dog’s been dropping hints from the very beginning.)

  1. I see you gave in lol So far so good. I love Aaron Yan’s character as well as his butler, Uncle Fu.
Tbh I didn’t see Just You, Puff’s character annoyed me and Tia Li hasn’t bothered me so far.

    1. I couldn’t help myself, this drama started out so cute, I was hooked right away! I love Aaron Yan and his character already has me hooked. As for the butler, Uncle Fu, I think he’s fantastic! He reminds me of Alfred from Batman and I think that’s just fantastic! I can’t wait to start on episode two!

  2. Honestly, I’m still struggling through “Just You” but I find Aaron Yan and Tia Li pretty awesome in this drama. The advertising plots run pretty dry, but I think the chemistry makes up for it. I can’t wait to watch the next episodes! The second leads, however, aren’t too convincing in looks or personality as of yet.

    1. I can understand where you’re coming from with “Just You.” It took me a while to accept Puff’s character but once I did, the show really grew on me. That being said, I’m pretty excited that Tia Li’s character isn’t annoying because it makes watching another T-drama much more enjoyable! Here’s hoping this trend lasts for the next 29 episodes! 🙂

      1. I’m really ready to watch the whole thing! Sadly, I have to wait every week. I have no patience when it comes to this drama.

        1. Oh, I’m the same way! It’s just too cute! The next 28 weeks are going to be torture, having to wait for a new episode… I just hope it stays as awesome as it is now by the end. You never know when it comes to T-dramas!

  3. Well, I’m the opposite. NO hate or anything, but i can’t stand the female lead in Just you and Fall in love with me. I know, I only watched the first episode of both drama, but their character personality, I’m not really digging it. I watched it for Aaron because he’s a total hottie, but the dramas, I can’t take it in. Sometimes they exaggerate on the chessy little things which makes me cringe so bad. But i have to say…because of Aaron, I’ll continue watching.

    1. I cant totally understand where you’re coming from! The problem with most T-Dramas (imho) is that the female lead is always SO ANNOYING! It’s like a requirement for all T-Dramas or something that every female lead has to be either completely helpless, completely clueless, completely dependent on others or completely destitute… Usually it’s a combination of them all and it’s so stinking annoying! Still, between Fall in Love With Me and Just You I think the female lead is much less annoying in this drama than in Just You. As for sticking around for Aaron… Yeah, he totally makes watching these dramas worthwhile! If you can get over all of the things that make you cringe, you may find that it’s actually a cute enough story but I know that’s hard. I will applaud you for sticking with it though, most people I talk to can never make it past the first couple of episodes. I’ll cheer you on with a hearty “JIAYOU!” (加油!)
