ZOMBIE’S T-DRAMA REVIEW: Someone Like You Episode 15

depend on me

Oh good grief! I don’t know how this show does it but it has me jumping for joy, dying from laughter, squeeing from a massive attack of warm-fuzzies and crying out in angry frustration all in a single episode. Seriously! I feel like I’ve just gotten of a roller-coaster of feels and I’m so shaken from the ride I’m not sure I’ll ever recover!

walk out like this

So we started out this week’s episode with Zhan Cheng and Yu Xi agreeing to take the best care of Ya Ti possible, without it looking like they were trying to take care of her at all and you know what? I was pretty happy about that. Now that everyone knows that Ya Ti has Luo Han’s heart, it makes sense that those who once loved Luo Han would want to do their part to take care of the one who’s keeping that heart beating. With Zhan Cheng and Ya Ti both having such big hearts, it just wouldn’t be like them to leave Ya Ti alone. They’re compelled helpers, always trying to take care of those around them and that’s part of why we love them so sure, I’ll go along with them helping Ya Ti set up a cookie shop at Big City because why not? It’s a whole heck of a lot better than Zhan Cheng announcing he’s going to take care of Ya Ti by way of dumping Yu Xi (which is what I’ve been fearing from the very beginning) so a cookie shop it is! Not gonna lie, the way Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng came to this agreement to care for Ya Ti together made me breathe an audible sigh of relief. I thought to myself, “Okay, great! Now we don’t have to worry about my adorable OTP separating for something as stupid as a heart.” And I went on my merry way.

awkward lunch

Well merry enough anyway. Unfortunately Bo Yan had to show up and remind us all of the million reasons why we can’t stand him. He’s such a prickly little prick. Always trying to force his way into people’s lives when they obviously don’t want him there. He did it with Yu Xi when he tried to convince her to take him back and he’s doing the same thing now with Vanessa, trying to force his way into her life by pretending to care about her and the baby. You would think that when someone sits across from you at the dinner table, and they’re giving you death glares, you’d be able to pick up on the fact they really don’t want you there. But with Bo Yan it seems he’s pretty much clueless to those types of non-verbal cues. Honestly, watching Bo Yan try to force Vanessa into eating lunch was nauseating but it was even worse when he dragged her to a prenatal appointment and then took notes on the whole thing like he was in some sort of business meeting. I’m beginning to wonder if this guy has a heart at all. I mean here he is, in the one place where he could really make a connection with both Vanessa and their baby, and he’s so busy taking notes on his phone he misses everything. I get that he’s not interested in keeping this baby but if he’s going to make the effort to give this child the best care possible, he should at least show some sort of interest while the child (and mom) are getting said care. If I cared for Bo Yan at all, I’d wish for him to observe this tiny miracle as he/she grows and I’d wish for him to connect with this child and come to some point of enlightenment in which he realizes this child isn’t just a thing, it’s a person, his person, and step up to become the man he ought to be. Of course if that happened, he’d have to be with Vanessa for life and I just can’t wish that upon anyone. Vanessa’s much better off without him so again I find myself wishing Bo Yan would just disappear forever and let this poor girl and her baby live happily ever after without him.

family lunch and lots of pressure

To offset my frustration with Bo Yan we got an incredibly hilarious little encounter with Zhan Cheng’s family and oh my word! That whole scene had me laughing so hard my kids had to come downstairs and check on me, to make sure I was alright. Oh boy! I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard while watching a drama! It’s just the way Fei Fei’s dad kept dropping the least subtle hints on the face of the planet and the way Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng kept looking at each other… Hahahahaha! I’m still cracking up! The whole, “Here, have this diamond and make it into a ring for your engagement” had me laughing so hard my sides hurt but the “Here, eat this food because it’s good for fertility and it’ll make you have pretty babies” had me rolling on the floor with tears streaming down my face. There’s nothing quite like an over-enthusiastic family to set the mood. Obviously. I mean did you see the kiss that came after!?! Whew! Kisses in the rain are the best! (And creeper family members watching you kiss in the rain are even better! Oh gosh! The tears! I couldn’t stop the tears!)

rain kiss 1

After squeeing wildly over another wonderful OTP kiss, I calmed myself down enough to appreciate Fei Fei and her confession, not only to Yu An but to Mama Chen as well. It took a lot of guts for Fei Fei to admit her feelings to both Yu An and his mom but she did and she did it in such a way that Yu An should feel no pressure from her. I get that he’s having second thoughts about his life choices but I’m convinced that stems more from the conversation he had with Yu Xi than anything Fei Fei said in her confession. By telling Yu An that their mom had always wished for him to settle down with a nice girl and raise a family, Yu Xi has planted that first tiny seed of doubt into Yu An’s mind and if that’s what sets things in motion for his ultimately giving up the priesthood, I’m going to be disappointed. Surely Yu An has to know that his mom has always wanted nothing but the best for him. Both she and Yu Xi have said that no matter what Mama Chen’s wishes were, she wanted her children to be free to live their own lives, not the dreams she had for them, so Yu An should rest assured in that fact. Mama Chen has made it perfectly clear that she loves and supports her children, no matter what so Yu An shouldn’t feel any guilt for dedicating his life to the priesthood. However, I don’t see this being the case. The combination of Fei Fei’s confession and the realization that his mother always wished for him to settle down and have a family seems to be making Yu An rethink some things. It’s too early to tell if Yu An’s going to make any sort of life changes but he’s definitely going to be doing some serious thinking.

rejected heart

Unfortunately Yu An isn’t the only one who’s going to be pondering over some things. Yu Xi has a horrible habit of overhearing things she shouldn’t and I’m so very, very disturbed by the fact she overheard Ya Ti wailing over Luo Han’s broken heart. I don’t need to rant any more over the whole cell memory crap but seriously! SERIOUSLY!?! Ya Ti should not be sitting in the hospital right now, just because she found out Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng are dating. PEOPLE DON’T DIE OF A BROKEN HEART! They may wish for death. They may go out and seek death. But people don’t just fall over because their heart is broken and they most certainly do NOT have their hearts broken because the former owner of said heart is hanging around, throwing a temper tantrum because it’s no longer the object of affection it once was. Honestly, if we’re going to stick with the cell memory crap, we might as well chalk this whole episode up to Luo Han throwing a fit because she can’t have her man, and if that’s the case, this girl doesn’t deserve Zhan Cheng at all. Maybe she deserved him at one point but not any longer. Nope! This putting another’s life in danger just because you’re hurting is a bunch of crap and it needs to stop. (See? This is why we don’t bother with cell memory! It’s just stupid and it makes it sound like you’ve got a haunted organ inside you. Yeesh! I’d have that sucker removed ASAP!) Sadly, Yu Xi doesn’t believe this cell memory crap is actually crap so she’s now going to spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out if she should stay with Zhan Cheng or give him up to the haunted heart and that just makes me mad. I know this pain is inevitable and it’s going to have to be endured if we’re ever going to have our happily ever after in the end but… UGH! I’m not looking forward to the next few episodes.

  1. hi i love this drama, that kissssss was haunting me since last week kkkkkkkkkkk, the BTS are better but why people are not subbing the BTS i want to know what they are talking about !!!!!
About the drama i´am loving this OTP , it´s been a while since i liked a T-drama, this is on my Top Five T- drama list. The family of the guy crack me up so much my family may think i have some problem because i was laughing like i crazy person kkkkkkkk.
Mama zombie every week i feel so happy when i see that you post the review, i feel like i was not alone in my craziness.

    1. You’re never alone in your craziness! I’m always right here, every bit as crazy as you and probably then some! I’m glad you’re enjoying my review. It’s always a lot of fun to have people to talk dramas with, especially when they’re as good as this one. I tell ya, this OTP has me squealing like crazy, they make me so happy. How can two people be so darn cute? And those kisses… Whew! Why can’t more dramas have kisses like these!?! They’re magic!

  2. How should I start? I’ll go with the easiest first…..

No brainer, Yu Xi and Zhan Cheng are just good for each other. I really love their moments by the pond, on the cable car steps, and just those where Yu Xi would rest her head on his shoulder; their conversations during these moments would really accentuate how much they understand and respect each others inner most thoughts. They are inherently good and loyal individuals, hence the relationship that they are building is based on love, trust and respect. And that kiss, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been commenting on that kiss on other forums, hence I’ll control myself.

On to Yu An and Fei Fei, I don’t know but I really think priesthood is for Yu An. He seems to genuinely like the vocation and his heart is into it. And Fei Fei, has grown up a bit as evidenced by how she handled the confession with Yu An and Mama Chen. But I still want her to mature a little more, meet different sets of people, form friendships and learn to earn her keep.

And lastly, Ya Ti. I’ve always mentioned my irritation with the character and the portrayal, and the dialogue b/w Ya Ti and Auntie Juan (when Ya Ti was saying stuff like….”Yu Xi is really my sister”) made me realised why. I can go behind Cellular Memory, but I can’t for the life of me understand Ya Ti’s reaction to it. It’s like now that there’s a confirmation that she has Luo Han’s heart, she’s acting as if she’s now Luo Han (without any resistance on her part). So, Yu Xi is Luo Han’s sister, the somehow acceptable response would be….I’ll be good to her and take it from there. But NO, Ya Ti had to dial up the creepiness and claim Yu Xi as her sister also. And with regards to the portrayal, this actress thinks that being soft-spoken equals volume and being slow.

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one completely irritated by Ya Ti’s lack of a personality. It’s as if this poor girl has given up her entire identity to this creepy heart that’s now trying to take over her life. There is no Ya Ti any more, it’s just Luo Han’s creepy heart calling all the shots. This is when cellular memory goes so far beyond reality it makes my head hurt. It also makes me want to throw things but I won’t. At least not yet…

  3. I thought Zhan Cheng-Yu Xi’s first kiss was good but this one in the rain beats their previous one. It was sweet and beautiful. I was thinking the same regarding Ya Ti/Luo Han’s reaction to Zhan Cheng’s confession that he is dating Yu Xi. Shouldn’t Luo Han be glad for him that he has finally found his happiness and that this someone is her twin-sister? Though we didn’t get to see Luo Han much but by the little we saw I think she seems like a mature and understanding woman so I doubt she would have reacted that way if she was still alive.

    1. Right? I always took Luo Han to be a reasonable girl so if we’re going to go with this cell memory thing, why wouldn’t her heart be as reasonable as the rest of her? It doesn’t make sense for her to react this way. It’s ridiculous and it needs to stop. A transplanted heart shouldn’t be dictating the life of it’s recipient. That’s just nonsense!

    2. I think the feelings YaTi felt are not purely of LuoHan’s anymore, but mixed up with her own as well.

  4. Same feelings here, it’s for the first time I am not looking forward to the next episode after watching this one. Looking at the later released preview, it seems like BoYan will play a role in persuading YuXi to leave ZhanCheng because of LuoHan’s still beating heart. Oh my, the scenes depicted in the ending song are like slowly coming true 🙁 YX deciding to leave ZC, him looking so sad wanting to reach out to her but held back by YT, then BY standing in the background with a smug smile. BY is not by YX side, nor YX walking towards him, meaning they won’t get back together but it doesn’t matter to BY coz he’s happy as long as YX and ZC not together. Urgh!
This show so far has had some unexpected turns, so I hope it will continue to prove me wrong in my pessimistic predictions.
